The United States Marine Corps (USMC) is a branch of the United States Armed Forces responsible for providing force projection from the sea, using the mobility of the United States Navy to deliver combined-arms task forces rapidly.

The civilian leadership of the USMC is part of the Department of the Navy, but has a military leadership structure that often works closely with, but is separate to the U.S. Navy.

Colonel Sharp, United States Marine Corps commander of the SOCCENT Forward Operations Base in Qatar, was faced with an unusual situation when a rogue MH-53 Pave Low helicopter that was reportedly shot down months ago encroached upon his command's airspace and refused to identify itself or comply with his warnings to leave the area. When it touched down on the base, instead of disembarking a crew as would be expected, the helicopter changed form, becoming a giant robot that laid waste to anything that opposed it before attacking the operations command center. Though Sharp personally stopped the machine from downloading all the information from the base's main server, he was presumably killed when the base was subsequently destroyed. Transformers (film)

Two years later, when the Decepticons launched an invasion of Earth, once again they caused a communications blackout that blinded the hierarchy of the US military. While the Autobot-human alliance NEST fought the Decepticons at the base of the Great Pyramid of Giza, General Morshower and the NEST support team at the Pentagon sent a UAV drone to investigate just what was going on in Egypt. Upon discovering that a massive battle was underway, Morshower authorized the use of Operation: Firestorm, a full-scale attack on the Decepticons using elements of the Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps. The Marines disembarked on the Egyptian shore via LCAC hovercraft and very quickly arrived at NEST's position in an abandoned Egyptian town, providing sorely needed manpower and armored support.

During the battle, Marine armor provided covering firing for Sam and Mikaela as they sought to reach Optimus Prime's body to resurrect him. After this, the armor was directed to attack the top of the Great Pyramid where Megatron and his master The Fallen were activating the Star Harvester, a machine that would consume the Sun. The Fallen used his telekinetic powers to pull all of the Marine vehicles into the air towards him, then dropped them out of the sky, eliminating the bulk of human opposition. Revenge of the Fallen

Hardware

Several of the vehicles arriving to back up NEST during the battle in Egypt are only used by the United States Army, not the US Marine Corps as stated in the movie. However, because this wiki follows what the fiction states, this article lists these US Army vehicles under the Marine Corps.

Notes

  • Voice actor Peter Cullen's elder brother Larry was a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. According to many of Cullen's interviews, he based Optimus Prime's voice and mannerisms upon Larry's calm, controlled and authoritative approach to serious situations.[1]
