Griffin
Griffins are hybrid creatures that possess the head, wings, and front legs of an eagle and the body of a lion. They appear in Earth mythology though their actual existence is suspect to doubt. They are related to ursagryphs.

The Decepticons modeled their flying base/war machine after a Giant Purple Griffin. Why they modeled it after a Giant Purple Griffin remains a mystery to this day. Aerial Assault

Toys
No character has yet been made that as an actual griffin for an altmode. However, there are at, least, and three characters who transform into the closely-related ursagryph.
Additionally, Silverbolt's Beast Machine toy can be configured into a form close enough resembling a griffin in suggests that his altmode was originally intended to be a mythological hybrid technorganic Fuzor instead of a rather awkward condor.
