Looking to get some payback from the Autobots, whom he'd assumed were human-controlled mech suits, General Rufus "Mad Dog" Madison created a false report that the Deep Driller had been attacked by hard-line environmentalists who'd taken hostages. As a storm made getting aircraft into the area impossible, the report ended up being passed on to the Autobots by Agent Fowler. When the Autobots arrived on the platform, they instead found Madison and his men in robotic battle suits ready to fight them. After a brief battle raged, Optimus Prime surrendered.
