Alternate meaning
Some fans use "Beastformer" as a term for any TF with an animal mode, does anyone else think that this article should include some kind of acknowledgment of that? --TVsGrady 00:24, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
- I don't. "Beastformer" had a specific meaning prior to being used in that way.--Chip 05:26, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
- A disambiguation sounds reasonable. "____Former" is common enough in casual transfan discourse that a fan could arrive at this page expecting to or looking for information on all Beast-Transfomers. Although since the wiki usually uses American names, I'm not sure why the article isn't titled Battle Beasts.

Well, in regards to the article being under the Japanese name, its because in none of the Battle Beasts' appearances in US Transformers fiction have they ever been identified as "Battle Beasts". I, personally, think the article should be called "Battle Beasts" since that's the logical equivalent to the Japanese name...but I got out-voted. --DrSpengler 23:38, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

I think it's a little different here since there is no American name within Transformers for these guys, and we generally don't use extra-TF information. Regardless, it's not a big deal to me either way, but I do think that difference is worth noting. --Steve-o 01:59, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
- What Steve said. If the Battle Beasts ever get more than unnamed cameos in US TF fiction (hey, who knows), then yeah, I'd say switch over to those names. Laser Beasts
Given that the laser beasts are explicitly from the same universe as the other Beastformers, shouldn't they be covered by the wiki? I know we don't cover every G.I. Joe, nor should we, but I see two key differences:
1) Beastformers aren't a separate property that's had crossovers with TF, but an actual offshoot of TF.
2) There is no organized Beastformer fandom to take care of this stuff for us.

- I agree, especially since the story booklet introducing the Laser Beasts gave a full-fledged origin story to the planet Beest, which we'd be remiss in excluding just because there weren't Autobot and Decepticon symbols on the pages. -Rotty 03:29, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Japanese names?
Where do they come from? Have they been re-transliterated lately? I ask because I was trying to figure out "Beavup," and realized it could just as well be "Bebop."—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 76.20.88.10 (talk • contribs).
- Years ago, the staff of the British TF fanzine InFormer got hold of a booklet (or photocopies of one) listing all the Beastformers and their names. They attempted to provide transliterations, but no one on staff had adequate katakana-reading skills. I saw the "translated" lists and, after getting copies of the original Japanese sheets, provided better translations. Even so, my Japanese skills have undergone much maturation (and some degradation) since. "Beavup" is a beaver, so now that I think of it, his name is conceivably a double-pun. "Beavop" would probably be the best compromise.--Apcog 06:26, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
