The name or term "Nightstick" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Nightstick (disambiguation).
Nightstick is an Autobot Targetmaster from the Generation 1 continuity family.

While still living on the planet Master Nightstick was an engineer, who volunteered to undergo a unique form of Binary-bonding in order to save the wounded Autobot Ricochet who's metabolism was damaged in an accident. Thus the symbiotic relationship between the two is closer to the concept of the Powermasters than traditional Targetmasters (who are Binary Bonded at wrist as opposed to the back as with Ricochet and Nightsick's case). While in weapon mode Nightstick utilizes the energy gathered by Ricochet's Black Body in order to generate a powerful Flame Cannon, wich causes such intense engine heat that it's use is unfeasible in vehicle mode as it would cause backdrift problems. In order to compensate Richochet instead switches between his other two beam cannons.

(Note: His relationship --if any-- to any other Nightstick is unknown.)

Japanese name: Nebulon

Fiction

The Headmasters manga

On Earth, the Decepticon Targetmasters, Slugslinger, Misfire and Triggerhappy, set a blazing inferno. Chromedome and Daniel were having trouble controling the fire when Ricochet and Artfire, accompanied by their partners Nightstick and Nightstick (not to be confused with Nightstick), showed up to help. Nightstick and Ricochet quickly aided their Autobot chums in the quenching of the blaze. With the fire under control, the Autobots then set their attentions on the Decepticons and sent them into a retreat.

Generation 1

  • Stepper (Targetmaster, 1987)
Japanese ID number: C-109
Nightstick is identical to Cyclonus' Targetmaster partner, also named Nightstick, transforming into a single-barrelled non-firing hand-cannon. In gun mode, Nebulon (as he was originally called) can peg into Stepper's car mode spoiler, or can attach to a separate bracket that mounted over his robot-mode shoulder. He was only available with Stepper, a then-Japan-only addition to the Headmasters series.
While Stepper came with the Targetmaster that belonged to Cyclonus, his contemporary, Artfire, was partnered with the Targetmaster belonging to Scourge. Their names, however, were switched - Scourge's gun, with Artfire, became Nightstick, while Cyclonus's gun, with Stepper, should have become Fracas. However, due to the fact that Scourge's Targetmaster partner is never referred to by name in his tech specs, only as "the Nebulon," Stepper's gun wound up getting that for a moniker.
  • Ricochet w/ Nightstick (Targetmaster, 2003)
Japanese ID number: TFC-15
For the 2003 reissue of Stepper/Ricochet both stateside and in Japan, Nightstick was retooled with a slender peg extension to allow Ricochet to actually hold him in his hand.
