You know this guy's got a level 3 Caterpie and some strong opinions on shorts.

Akira Serikawa (芹川アキラ Serikawa Akira) is an Earthling who befriended the Autobots during an attack by the Nine Great Demon Generals. He knows a fair amount about the Earth and its inner workings thanks to his father, a geophysicist. He's big into hiking, bug-catching, flower collecting, and general outdoorsmanship, but his true fascination lies with the wider universe. He is friends with Cain and his pink bunny-bird Emusa.

On the planet Earth, the planet of his birth, Akira was collecting butterflies. Suddenly the air was filled with the sounds of giant robot monsters as Trypticon attacked! Fortunately the Autobot Micromasters arrived and rescued Akira (and the other humans around) from a fate the same as death.

The Micromasters and their friend Cain introduced themselves to Akira, and Akira hung out with them while the Decepticon Generals attacked Earth. After Dai Atlas showed up to save the day, retrieving the Zodiac energy, Akira proved himself quite knowledgeable about it. After all, Akira's father is a geologist. Of course he'd know about a crystallized heart in the depths of the Earth which is one of the greatest sources of power in the universe. Enter the New Supreme Commander, Dai Atlas!

Later, Cain, Akira and Emusa were present on the Earth's moon when Metrotitan attacked the "Zone City" stationed there in defense of the planet. As Metrotitan obliterated both the base and Galaxy Shuttle, the three escaped the destruction in Rabbicrater. Zone #8

Returning to Earth, the three felt the effects of Metrotitan's new weapon, the "Freeze Beam Gun". Road Fire made short work of Metrotitan, ending this threat. Zone #9

Violengiguar himself then came to Earth, intent on stealing the Zodiac. He plowed through the Powered Masters to grab the Galaxy Rocket, both obtaining the Zodiac and abducting Emusa, Cain, Akira and Moonradar in the process. Zone #10

The Powered Masters followed Violengiguar to the mysterious Tenth Planet, where Violengiguar split into three insect monsters. Roadfire defended the Galaxy Rocket from Lenger, saving the captives inside. Zone #11

After the Powered Masters defeated Violengiguar's final form with their Zodiac-fueled Rainbow Powered Attack, sunlight returned to the Tenth Planet. The Zodiac rainbow remained in the sky, causing the world to sprout greenery and flowers. Though Cain, Akira, Emusa and the Transformers all came from different worlds, they realized they'd need all their strength and each other's help to make this new world a peaceful one. As Cain and Akira ran through a field of flowers together, holding each other's hands, Emusa placed one in Akira's hair. Zone #12

Notes

[edit]
  • Akira's surname, Serikawa, is not mentioned in either the cartoon or comic versions of Zone. It only appears once, as part of a story page advertisement for the Zone OVA, describing Akira as the child of "Earth physicist Professor Serikawa".
  • Akira and his Zone chums looked quite different between the Zone story pages and anime, as you can see at right.
  • It is heavily implied that Cain and Akira are romantically attracted to one another, which would make them the first same-sex attracted characters in Transformers media.
