Al Williamson
Al Williamson (March 21, 1931, New York City — June 12, 2010) was a comic book inker, among other things. He started pursuing a career in cartooning, and in 1952, joined EC comics and became one of a group of artists known as the "Fleagle Gang". For the most part he drew adventure and mystery comics, including Weird Fantasy and Weird Science. Following the dropping of most of their comic titles, he worked for a number of other comic houses, notably Warren Publishing during the '60s and Secret Agent Corrigan for King Features during the 70s. His experience with adventure comics led him to work on Star Wars and Flash Gordon comics during the early 80s, however he began moving from penciling to inking around this time, as his detailed style took so long to produce that it hampered his ability to make a living. He continued working into the mid-00s, inking on Spider-Girl, Star Wars and Green Lantern.
At San Diego Comic-Con 2013, José Delbo named Williamson as one of his favorite people who've inked his work throughout his career. Finally, Delbo convinced Williamson to ink some of his Transformers pencils, but he gave up after four pages because fifteen million shiny robots are annoying to render. Dan Reed finished the issue after Williamson ditched.
