Brainmouse is a Laser Beast from the Generation 1 continuity family.
The same thing we do every night.

Though he's about as low as you can be in the Laser Beast army's hierarchy, Brainmouse (ブレインマウス Bureinmausu) plans to rise up the ranks... cautiously. The nervous sort, he tries to remain constantly aware of everything going on and find the angles others miss. He takes the time to read the situation and meticulously prepare a no-nonsense plan that gets the job done with the least amount of risk. He'd be incredibly dangerous were he not so timid.

When in battle, he foregoes flashy tactics and tries to get things over with quickly. Which can be a bit of a problem given the power of his MVP Weapon, the Dirty Bio Laser (ダーティーバイオレーザー Dātī Baio Rēzā). Not especially strong on its own, its powered-up blast can infect organic targets with harmful bacteria that, if untreated, can corrode the body from the inside out... a process that takes time. As such he prefers to trick and confuse his opponents, giving him a chance to get away while the laser's effects do their dirty work.

Beastformers: Laser Beasts

[edit]
  • Brainmouse (Laser Beast, 1988)
  • ID number: 88
  • Accessories: "Dirty Bio Laser" MVP Weapon (usually)
Part of the first assortment of Takara's Beastformers individually-boxed Laser Beasts, Brainmouse is a soft-plastic figure of an anthropomorphic mouse in high-tech yellow armor. His left arm ends in a robotic claw. He has a transparent orb in his torso, revealing the elemental power of Fire, Water, or Wood when you look through it into a light source.
Nominally, he comes with the mouse-themed "Dirty Bio Laser" blaster. However, there is also a chance he could come with the weapon from one of the other 11 Laser Beasts in his shipping case; matching the Beasts with their same-numbered weapons was part of the "role-playing game" attached to the line, encouraging kids to buy more of the toys.
This toy was actually released in Hasbro's Battle Beasts line as part of the "Shadow Warriors" series, but they saw extremely limited distribution, largely hitting clearance chains in the US, plus limited releases in parts of Europe. As such, it generally goes for a bit less than the later Laser Beasts that were only released in Japan, but not a lot less. There is a minor variant to the gun that has popped up in some EU and Canadian samples: the common version of the gun has the "88" ID number stamped on the left-hand side below the mouse's "ear", while the variant puts it on the right side, inside the small rectangular divot in the mouse's mid-back.
There is a minor molding variant to this toy: most Brain Mouses (Mice?) have slightly oblong ears, but a sample has been found with slightly shorter, more circular ears. It is currently unclear if the short-ear version was released in the Takara line or if it is a Hasbro-release exclusive. (The rounded-ear sample found also has unpainted eyes, but that might just be a factory error. Obviously, more round-ear Mouses (Mices?) need to be found.)

Notes

  • It is unknown what Brainmouse's Hasbro Battle Beasts name would have been.
