Brown Lion is a Laser Beast from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Brown Lion (ブラウンライオン Buraun Raion) is the Laser Beast other Laser Beasts want to be. His bravery, courage and charisma make him a leader among leaders. No hint of weakness in mind or body does he exhibit, not a moment of hesitation when following a plan or his own excellent intuition. He stands proud on the battlefield, mane flowing, his toned and golden-furred body tensed and ready for action. Even his MVP Weapon, the Spark Motion Laser (スパークモーションレーザー Supāku Mōshon Rēzā) is bigger than life, having such tremendous recoil that few other than Brown Lion can wield it effectively even in its normal mode, never mind its devastating charged-shot mode.

It is therefore something of a surprise that he is not higher in the Laser Beast hierarchy, being merely Captain of the Ground Attack Force... But to his credit, he is the only Captain who commands two units, as the Ground Assault Force also falls under his command.

Beastformers comic

Brown Lion—or someone who looked like him—was one of the Laser Beasts who were unhappy with how their society was growing increasingly callous and machine-like, so he and some others left their underground empire and traveled to the surface of Beast where they founded a new civilization that would become the Beastformers. During the war between the Laser Beasts and Beastformers thousands of years later, Brown Lion—or someone who looked like him—helped build the Battlecruisers. Beastformers VS Laser Beasts

Brown Lion is never called by name in these photo comics. It is more than likely that the toys being used in the distant-past portion of the story are meant to represent "generic" ancient Laser Beasts rather than the actual named modern-day characters.

Legends comic

Brown Lion took part in the final battle between the Beastformers and the Laser Beasts on Beast in 2023. He was imprisoned in Red Phoenix's jail during the battle. The Road to Legends' Revival Chapter 1

Part of the second —and rarer— assortment of Takara's Beastformers individually-boxed Laser Beasts, Brown Lion is an anthropomorphic lion in high-tech purple armor. He has a transparent orb in his torso, revealing the elemental power of Fire, Water, or Wood when you look through it into a light source.

Nominally, he comes with the lion-themed "Spark Motion Laser" blaster. However, there is also a chance he could come with the weapon from one of the other 11 Laser Beasts in his shipping case; matching the Beasts with their same-numbered weapons was part of the "role-playing game" attached to the line, encouraging kids to buy more of the toys.

This toy was actually released in Hasbro's Battle Beasts line as part of the "Shadow Warriors" series, but in an exceptionally limited capacity, and only in parts of Europe. It was released on an individual card as a "Battle Charger", coming with a unique lion-themed shield and the gray/orange version of the W Battler sled. Naturally, this makes this version very expensive to obtain, moreso than the Takara release.
