Bruce McCandless II is CAPCOM at NASA's missino control for Apollo 11. He doesn't have time to debate whether Neil Armstrong got his lines right or not. He is also an astronaut himself.
Fiction
[edit]Dark of the Moon novel
[edit]After Armstrong set foot on the Moon, McCandless was irritated by a PR flack who was questioning whether Armstrong had said "for man" or "for a man". After telling him where to go, McCandless returned to communicating with Armstrong, until suddenly there was a large amount of signal interference. Unbeknownst to anyone at Mission Control, the interference originated from a nearby room, where the three Johnsons were sending Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on a secret mission to examine the crashed Ark.
Candless was later let in on the secret, though he didn't make an secret about the fact he was annoyed at not having been informed before the mission. Decades later, when he, Aldrin and one of the Johnsons met with Optimus Prime, Candless brought it up again before telling the Autobot leader about the six missions NASA had made to the Ark.
