The Johnsons are three government operatives who are, along with the astronauts, the only people who are part of the Apollo 11 mission to know its true purpose. None of the three Johnsons are related in any way, and they are dressed in the most nondescript manner possible. One of the Johnsons is a doctor and a military physicist.

During the Apollo 11 mission, the three Johnsons occupied a room separate from Mission Control, in which they activated equipment to jam the signal between CAPCOM and the astronauts on the Moon. Doctor Johnson kept in contact with Neil Armstrong via radio as Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin explored the wreck of the Ark.

Decades later, Doctor Johnson along with Aldrin and Bruce McCandless II were brought in by Charlotte Mearing to meet Optimus Prime. Johnson suggested that the Soviets had sent unmanned probes and picked up the fuel rod that caused the disaster at Chernobyl. Dark of the Moon (novel)
