Space... specialists?--RosicrucianTalk 11:55, 10 March 2010 (EST)

I'm pretty sure that was a gag once on Futurama. --ItsWalky 12:06, 10 March 2010 (EST)
Is it time for a category killing spree? --M Sipher 13:18, 10 March 2010 (EST)
What for? Do we not like functions categories? Or do we just not like some of the functions categories? What's the problem? Rosicrucian's post was pretty nonspecific. - Starfield 13:30, 10 March 2010 (EST)
This seems really kind of generic. But, for what it's worth, Animated Starscream is perfectly capable of interstellar flight.--Jimsorenson 14:50, 10 March 2010 (EST)
So is most of the G1 season 3 cast, as well as every single character in Energon! --ItsWalky 14:56, 10 March 2010 (EST)
OK, it is kind of a gray area in some continuities. I tried to account for that with the "spacefaring abilities that set them apart from their peers" part. Usually it is pretty clear who is specialized for space, although writers don't always pay attention. Animated Blurr ran interstellar distances, but I think that is some kind of creative license. For the category, I was only going to pick characters described as having space-related abilities in bios and such. I think it is pretty straightforward to pick out who is specialized for space. - Starfield 15:50, 10 March 2010 (EST)

I definitely disagree with adding just anyone with the capability of spaceflight to this.--RosicrucianTalk 00:02, 11 March 2010 (EST)

I agree. There should be something that sets them apart from others. I think everyone on the list has something especially space-related about them. Like Cyclonus (G1), whose Targetmaster bio says "In space jet mode, has nuclear-powered turbine engines that allow him to cruise at Mach 2 in suborbital altitudes and achieve escape velocity for interstellar space travel". I also included all space shuttles because they are space shuttles. - Starfield 00:28, 11 March 2010 (EST)
You're kind of casting too broad a net. More meaningful categories would be, say, "Pilots" or "Transports."--RosicrucianTalk 00:34, 11 March 2010 (EST)
A Pilots category might be interesting, except I don't know if there's enough characters who qualify. (Landshark's a pilot, there's gotta be some GI Joes who are, and... I'm blanking other than that.
As for Transports, not every TF that explicitly has outer space travel abilities listed is a transport. We'd still need some sort of generic category anyway. --Jeysie 04:15, 11 March 2010 (EST)
That guy from the Marvel comics that got eaten by Scraplets would count as a pilot, I guess.
The problem with this category right now is that no real definition was made beforehand to separate those who actually are meant for missions in space from those who aren't at a disadvantage when in space. I think the category is useful and should stay, but it should be purged from the latter group. Geewunling 04:33, 11 March 2010 (EST)
