Are there really enough characters to justify this category? Interrobang 02:09, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

I really don't see much of a point to this.--TVsGrady 02:13, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
Especially since most of the characters who would appear in this, like Sonar and the Extreme Competition Team, never actually had their "gender" defined until the supposed "switch"? --M Sipher 02:28, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
At least five of them are clear cases of a character being "he" in one place and "she" in another. The Extreme Comp. Team pages use "he" for the Japanese toy, is that just an "assumed" he? Is "she" the only official gender those characters have had?
Yes. None of the Micron Boosters beyond the latest wave using Classics molds had anything more than a name. No bio, no quote. Christ, the GF assortment didn't even have an assigned faction. The "he" is an assumed holdover from before their first and only official bios hit the fan club. --M Sipher 02:57, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
Anyway, I think five unambiguous cases and four borderline cases are enough to justify a category. JW 02:32, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
As to whether this category should exist at all: The fact that some TF characters have been presented as both genders is a multi-faceted phenomenon, says interesting things about people's expectations about gender identity and balance, and is also nigh-unique to the TF brand. (This doesn't happen to G.I. Joe characters, youbetcha.) I think it's worth a category, and may do a page on it some day. JW 02:43, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

A category is 'useful' when it sorts article into groups that users are interested in. Thus "Category: Characters that share names with locations" is not useful, and Category: Ninjas is useful. The latter is particularly useful because it groups characters who are not otherwise useful. ('Combaticons' may be a valid category, but all of its members are also linked to in the top section of the 'Combaticon' page. Ninjas are more diverse.)

Frankly as a user? I think "Category: Gender-benders" is interesting. Just like I like to look through Category:Things that don't exist to see what diverse characters, concepts and things manage to actually fit under that oddball category.

It's not a very dignified category- but it's one of the things people are interested in. If the reason we're not including it is because we don't think it projects the image we want associated with Transformers... then I have to object. Start deleting Kiss Player articles first-- I don't want people to think that's what tf is about.  :( -Derik 02:56, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

I think the Extreme Competition Team and Sonar deserve some sort of mention in this category. Maybe as a sub-category (mostly just to fill in the space of there being so little characters in this category). --Ninjabot33 18:59, 18 June 2010 (EDT)

If they never had any gender to begin with, it's not a gender switch. --ItsWalky 19:03, 18 June 2010 (EDT)
I know that, I just said maybe they should have a different sub-category about characters who didn't already have a gender for a while, which is similar. --Ninjabot33 03:52, 19 June 2010 (EDT)
