Chicxulania

Somewhere in deep space lies the mysterious world of Chicxulania. It's clear that at some point this jungle planet was inhabited, and subsequently altered, by one or more advanced alien species, who seeded the world with massive reserves of Energon. Traces of their presence can still be seen in the enigmatic ruins they left behind, some of which house their forgotten experiments.

Most notably, the aliens imported at least 400 non-native species to the planet, including dinosaurs and other Mesozoic creatures. Ruined grid patterns on the surface suggest that these species were meant to be kept separate for study, in some kind of interstellar nature preserve. Since the departure of said aliens, however, the imported species have mingled with their neighbors and the native flora and fauna, integrating into the ecosystem.

The only sentient life-forms that inhabit the planet are the Vespoids, an enigmatic race of primitive insectoids.

Notes

[edit]
  • The planet's name is derived from [[wikipedia:{{#if:|:}}Chicxulub crater|{{#if:Chicxulub|Chicxulub|Chicxulub crater}}]], the area in Yucatán believed to be the impact site by the [[wikipedia:{{#if:|:}}Chicxulub impactor|{{#if:dinosaur-killing meteor|dinosaur-killing meteor|Chicxulub impactor}}]]. It is roughly pronounced "cheek-shoe-lube".
  • Obviously enough, the planet is a big homage to Jurassic Park.
  • It's not clear if the Vespoids are native to the planet, or if they were also relocated by the aliens and abandoned.
  • The planet was unnamed in its initial appearance, but was name-checked in "Deadly Aim" less than a month later.
