Beast Wars: Uprising

[edit]

Clench was a Cyberdroid colonist from the planet Rebirth, seven million years removed from Cybertron. He opposed the ruling Optimus triumvirate and formed the Malignus with his partner, Doomshot. However, their peaceful protests were driven underground by Optimus tyranny, leading to outright rebellion.

When the Decepticons arrived on the planet, the Malignus saw them as liberators. Nucleon convinced the Malignus leadership to bond with Galvatron, forming the first Triple-Threat Master, a combination of Head-, Target-, and Powermaster. Rebirth was renamed "Master" under Galvatron's iron fist, until the Decepticon leader and his partners challenged the Human Confederacy.

After the war, Clench was sentenced to indefinite incarceration alongside his fellow Master partners. A Brush With Infamy–Prologue

However, the Builder Assembly eventually found they didn't have the resources to continue holding them. Clench and his colleagues were released. He apparently did not survive the Targetmaster Extirpation, though. Not All Megatrons

Toys

Armada

[edit]
  • Galvatron with Clench (Giga-Con, 2003)
    • Takara ID number: MD-08
    • Takara release date: September ??, 2003
Available only with the larger Armada Galvatron toy, Clench is a redeco of Leader-1, transforming into a Cybertronic buggy with twin top-mounted blasters. As a Mini-Con, he has a "Powerlinx" socket on his vehicle-mode underside which allows him to attach to any toy with a "Powerlinx" style 5 mm post; some toys have special Powerlinx posts that activate/unlock gimmicks when a Mini-Con is attached. Oddly, the central peg inside his Powerlinx socket is a separate piece of plastic from the rest of his torso, with a small "button" connected to it on his back. It is unclear what purpose this serves.
He also has three different "gun" configurations: one is a hand-held blaster (his right fist ends in a 5 mm post to serve as a handle), one is an "angled" blaster designed to fit in the flip-up tank-tread panel on Galvatron's right shoulder, the other is supposed to go on the back of Galvatron's main turret (and seemingly involves the aforementioned mini-button of uncertain purpose).
In the Takara Legends of the Microns line, the Clench deco (with very slight alterations) was used as Leader-1's powered up form "Spark Barrel", as seen in the Armada cartoon. You can of course use your Hasbro Clench as "Powerlinx Leader-1" if you wanna.
This mold was also used to make Caliburn, and was the basis for the new-mold Cybertron Mini-Con Drill Bit.

Notes

[edit]
  • Unlike his Unicron Trilogy counterpart, Beast Wars: Uprising Clench does not employ the toy's vehicle mode but rather the firearm mode as a Targetmaster.
  • Meanwhile, Clench's moldmate Caliburn has an entirely different status, being a Powermaster with an engine mode before becoming a Micromaster with a vehicle mode.
