Daytrader

Daytrader is an Autobot from The Last Knight portion of the movie continuity family.
"How do you do, fellow protoforms?"

Part junk trader, part merchant, and part mechanic, Daytrader is the kind of person you'll find in any hardscrabble, survival-based economy if you look hard enough. More interested in peddling his (admittedly diverse) array of scavenged wares than any hardcore fighting, Daytrader looks out for himself and thus tends to lurk on the periphery of any given conflict—a habit that, in conjunction with his dubious merchandise, irritates his fellow Autobots to no end.

Ugh. Here comes the most irritating, annoying Transformer on Earth. Should I frag him?{{#if:|{{{quote2}}}}}{{#if:HoundThe Last Knight|Hound{{#if:The Last Knight|, The Last Knight|}}|}}

Daytrader served as a supplier to the Autobots hiding in Cade Yeager's scrapyard, scouring Transformer battlefields for usable salvage. Daytrader arrived at the scrapyard shortly after Cade, Bumblebee, and Hound returned from their recent trip to Chicago, having been let in by Jimmy (against Cade's request) in exchange for an alien gun. He dodged the carelessly-thrown explosives and weathered the more pointed insults from the crew, as the Autobots expressed their annoyance that he had yet to provide them with a ship to get them mobile (and preferably off-planet).

"I am the Walrus."

Daytrader instead offered them various bits of scrap he had found, including the Vatti Bot, Starscream's head and a functional voicebox for Bumblebee. He noticed the talisman in Cade's jeep, but believed it to be a replica, as the appearance of the real deal would be a sign that getting off-world as soon as possible would be the best course of action. The trades made, he trundled off to find new wares and "slather himself head to toe in hot oil", an image Drift found particularly disturbing. He also seemed keen to get away before they realized that the new voicebox would give Bumblebee a voice very much not his own.

Shortly after the arrival of Cybertron in Earth's orbit, Daytrader made good on his old promise and delivered a ship to the Autobots at Cade's scrapyard, which brought them to Stonehenge for the final battle. The Last Knight

Notes

[edit]
"Well what do you know? It scares little kids and little monsters."
  • Early concept art of Daytrader depicted him with a head directly based off his voice actor Steve Buscemi. It is the stuff of nightmares.
  • If you look closely at Daytrader's head, you can see that the entire upper portion to his vehicle mode cab is shrunken to become his robot mode "hat".
  • Daytrader having possession of Starscream's head is really hilarious in hindsight given his voice actor's next role in the Transformers franchise.
