Dinogator

Aaaayyyyyyyy.

Dinogator is a Laser Beast from the Generation 1 continuity family.

While every member of the Laser Beast elite ranks is frightening, perhaps none are as outright and widely feared as Dinogator (ダイノゲーター Dainogētā), Commander of the Underground Battalion and member of the Subterranean Demon Clan who protect Emperor Tigerburn. Utterly ruthless, he lives by the credo "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth", which includes any of his subordinates who disappoint him. Failure on any level is certain to bring harsh, brutal punishment from this strict, snarling bruiser.

And if that's how he treats his soldiers, it's no surprise how hard he lays into the enemy. Seemingly vibrating with the need to fight, he refuses to sit back and command battles from a safe distance. He jumps right into the thick of things, be it piloting the armor-shredding Battle Buzzsaw Battlecruiser or simply going in on his own two feet and throwing down with tooth and claw. His MVP Weapon, the Scale Beam Laser (スケールビームレーザー Sukēru Bīmu Rēzā), can encase targets in thick scales that make movement difficult if not impossible, leaving them vulnerable to whatever horrors Dinogator then chooses to inflict on them.

Dinogator resided in the Laser Beasts' underground city while their society grew more and more cold-hearted. Legend of the Three Wise Ones He participated in the invasion of the surface and the war with the Beastformers who lived there, receiving the Battle Buzzsaw vehicle to counter the threat of the Beastformers' Hunters. Released in the post-Transformers-branding Beastformers toyline, Dinogator is an anthropomorphic crocodile in high-tech grey armor. He has a transparent orb in his torso, revealing the elemental power of Fire, Water, or Wood when you look through it into a light source.

Dinogator was only available with the Battle Buzzsaw Battlecruiser, a chariot that can be ridden by any Laser Beast or Beastformer toy. Neither item was sold in the Hasbro Battle Beasts line, and being late entries in Beastformers, they command pretty high prices on the secondary market.

Notes

• It is unknown what Dinogator's Hasbro Battle Beasts name would have been. He was slated to be released in one of twelve "motorized vehicle" (aka Battlecruiser) sets. The Pre-Toy Fair 1988 catalogue shows him on the red-and-yellow sawfish-type vehicle, the mold he did come with in Beastformers, but it's entirely possible he would have come with a different one; this assortment never made it to packaging sample stage. (The blue one that is 90% the deco from Beastformers is shown with Skullgrotes in the big group shot.)
