Egon Spengler is a Ghostbuster from (well) [[wikipedia:{{#if:|:}}Ghostbusters (franchise)|{{#if:Ghostbusters|Ghostbusters|Ghostbusters (franchise)}}]].

Dr. Egon Spengler is a scientist and founding member of the Ghostbusters. As the brains of the team, he holds multiple degrees and is constantly absorbed in his research and construction of new equipment. As a result, his social interactions with other humans leave much to be desired.

He's confident aliens don't exist. We wonder how that's working out for him.

Egon and the other Ghostbusters were pursuing a ghost through Brooklyn before their car, the Ecto-1 was badly damaged after their quarry plunged it into a sinkhole. Chasing the ghost on foot into Prospect Park, the four men were able to quickly corral the ghost but discovered that a second Ecto-1 had somehow appeared nearby. Meanwhile, Egon detected another PKE reading... a signature that belonged to the ghost of Starscream, who was easily snared and trapped by Peter Venkman. Worried by the abnormal PKE signature of this second ghost, and wondering why he was speaking about an "Autobot," their questions were answered when the second Ecto-1 transformed into Ectronymous Diamatron and introduced himself. Ghosts of Cybertron Part 1

Ectronymous explained that he had come to Earth in search of Starscream, who had been giving off the abnormal energy readings. Egon dismissed Ray's suggestion that he was a ghost who'd possessed a vehicle but refused to comply with Ectronymous's demand for them to hand over the ghost trap that currently contained Starscream. When the Autobot scientist zapped the trap out of Peter's hands, Starscream's ghost was immediately loosed and began wreaking havoc, only calming down after seeing Ectronymous. Starscream explained that Cybertron had been invaded and destroyed by Gozer, and that Starscream and several other Decepticons had been turned into ghosts by the supernatural entity known as "Kremzeek". Seemingly corroborating Starscream's story, the group was menaced by a tiny Kremzeek, but—after Egon confirmed that the otherwise untrappable Kremzeek could be safely dispelled—the group was able to safely obliterate the electrical imp by using Ectronymous's metal body as a grounder. The Ghostbusters and their new Autobot ally then agreed that they would bring Starscream back to their firehouse until Ectotron could contact his leader, Optimus Prime. Ghosts of Cybertron Part 2

At the firehouse, Egon and Ray helped to repair Ectotron's communication systems, though Egon still remained unconvinced that their guest was really an alien. No sooner had Ectronymous—now going by the nickname "Ectotron"—put through the call, however, then the team was called out to take care of another ghost out in Brooklyn, haunting an abandoned factory. Borrowing Ectotron's alternate mode, Egon and Ray stayed behind while Peter and Winston baited the ghost out; though they were initially unable to restrain the electrically-charged phantom due to its ability to leech power of the city's electrical grid, Ectotron was able to momentarily weaken the ghost by tackling a powerline, allowing the rest of the team to capture it within one of Ectotron's specially-modified ghost traps. After returning home, the team discovered that Optimus Prime had arrived on Earth and been defaced by local vandals before Peter realized that Starscream had abruptly vanished from the ghost trap he had been contained in. Ghosts of Cybertron Part 3

Relocating to the team's Red Hook warehouse, Egon analyzed the PKE readings and realized that Starscream didn't just escape, he was released... and while Ray and Winston worked together to engineer some super-sized proton packs for their new allies, Egon continued to scan the region for any sign of Starscream's PKE signature, eventually finding him in Queens. Tracking his signature to Grosbeak Generating Station, Starscream materialized, along with his new master Kremzeek. Kremzeek revealed that he had sent Starscream to Earth to lure Prime and his forces there so that he could then absorb the power of the AllSpark. While the Ghostbusters battled Kremzeek, they once again found their proton packs ineffective against Kremzeek's ability to draw energy from the power station, though Ray was able to release the electricity-eating ghost and temporarily dispel the both of them. However, dispelling Kremzeek meant releasing the victims he had absorbed in the past... the Decepticons, led by a ghostly Megatron! Ghosts of Cybertron Part 4

Though the Ghostbusters were able to restrain both Shockwave and Soundwave, they were unable to prevent Megatron from possessing Ectotron, though Egon helped to come up with an ad hoc plan to force Megatron out of his body by using a canister of mood slime. With Optimus's help, the team was able to expel Megatron's spirit from Ectotron's body and trap him. In the aftermath, Ectotron announced that he would be leaving the planet once again in the hopes of finding and rehabilitating other Cybertronian ghosts across the galaxy on behalf of the Earthbound Ghostbusters once his new human allies had repaired the original Ecto-1. Egon, who had finally come to accept the existence of aliens, wondered what kind of adventures their new teammate would have out in space. Ghosts of Cybertron Part 5
