The Notorious B.I.G.
Christopher George Latore Wallace (May 21, 1972 – March 9, 1997), better known by his stage names as The Notorious B.I.G., Biggie Smalls, or just Biggie, was an American rapper. Rooted by his upbringing in Brooklyn, and East Coast hip-hop, he was best remembered for his distinct laid-back delivery of lyrics offsetting the content of his songs, many of which were inspired by his troubled childhood and frequent encounters with the law. His debut album, Ready to Die, featured tracks that contained lyrics that reference his upbringing, including his signature rags-to-riches song, "Juicy".
The Juicy track was later remixed for the initial trailer for the 2023 film, Rise of the Beasts. The 2007 remaster of "Hypnotize" was featured in both the finished film proper and the Spotify playlist.
At the age of 24, The Notorious B.I.G. was assassinated in the early morning hours of March 9, 1997 from a drive-by-shooting. His second and final album, Life After Death, in which Hypnotize was featured, was released sixteen days after his death.
Notes
[edit]- Actress Angela Bassett portrayed his mother, Voletta Wallace in the 2009 biopic, Notorious.
- The surname of the character Elena Wallace in Rise of the Beasts is a reference to the rapper's real name.
