Having been shot out of the sky above a devastated Earth by Megatron, Springer had Roadbuster, Leadfoot, and Sandstorm run interference with Megatron's zombies while he, Kup, and Whirl made for Goldstone to send a message back to Cybertron warning Optimus Prime and the other Autobots. Loose Ends, Part 2 Although the signal successfully reached Cybertron, Megatron revealed that he had left the Deep Space Network intact and allowed the Wreckers to reach it as his plan had been to get Prime's attention all along.
