Green Rayfer

Green Rayfer is a Laser Beast from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Born in the darkest depths of planet Beast's subterranean ocean, Green Rayfer (グリーンレイファー Gurīnreifā) specializes in deep-sea solo missions. Actually, that's a bit of an understatement; that's about all he does, and he is an expert. Capable of swimming silently in the dark depths, his preferred tactic is to strike foes without being seen, injecting them with a toxic shot from his Poison Shoot Laser (ポイズンシュートレーザー Poizun Shūto Rēzā) MVP Weapon, which numbs and drains the strength of its victims, even causing them to waste away and die over time.

While someone with his level of skill should theoretically be higher in the Laser Beast hierarchy, Green Rayfer is such a loner that it'd be pointless to give him any subordinates. Even his superiors give "The Assassin of the Ocean" a wide berth, as he's utterly creepy, emotionless even by Laser Beast standards. Not a trace of joy, anger, or regret can be detected as he goes about his grim business. No-one is even really sure of his full potential, he's seen so rarely, and no-one knows what's going on in his head... and they likely don't want to.

Green Rayfer panicked when an earthquake cracked the ceiling above the Laser Beasts' underground city, causing water to pour in and flood the city. He himself was alright, being amphibian and all. Legend of the Three Wise Ones He participated in the invasion of the surface and war with the Beastformers who lived there, and during one battle was sent fleeing by the Sheep Hunter and Stag Hunter. Part of the second—and rarer—assortment of Takara's Beastformers individually-boxed Laser Beasts, Green Rayfer is an anthropomorphic stingray in high-tech dark blue armor. He has a transparent orb in his torso, revealing the elemental power of Fire, Water, or Wood when you look through it into a light source.

Nominally, he comes with the ray-themed "Poison Shoot Laser" blaster. However, there is also a chance he could come with the weapon from one of the other 11 Laser Beasts in his shipping case; matching the Beasts with their same-numbered weapons was part of the "role-playing game" attached to the line, encouraging kids to buy more of the toys.

This toy was never released in Hasbro's Battle Beasts line, not even in the limited capacity most "Shadow Warriors" were. As such, it commands a high price on the secondary market.

Notes

• "Green Rayfer" is a play on "Grim Reaper". Unlike the final toy, the stock art does depict him in green hues, explaining the name.
• It is unknown what Green Rayfer's Hasbro Battle Beasts name would have been. He was slated to be released in one of twelve "motorized vehicle" (aka Battlecruiser) sets. The Pre-Toy Fair 1988 catalogue shows him on the yellow-and-bronze "rhino"-type vehicle, but it's entirely possible he would have come with a different one; this assortment never made it to packaging sample stage.
