Groundwolf

Groundwolf is a Laser Beast from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Groundwolf (グランドウルフ Gurandourufu) was seemingly born to fight. Bare-knuckle or heavily-armed, "the Ruffian of South Snarl" is always ready for a scrap. And with a "the best defense is a good offense" philosophy, there's not an ounce of hesitation in him, always ready to throw the first punch. He's got the muscle and burning drive to back up his actions, and can explode into white-hot rages of unstoppable violence. His MVP Weapon, the Death Hurricane Laser (デスハリケーンレーザー Desu Harikēn Rēzā) can create powerful whirlwinds, but it's not exactly a discriminating weapon, sweeping up both friend and foe alike.

And yet, despite all this, it's somehow hard to hate Groundwolf. He's not cruel, he doesn't bully, he follows orders. He's just a beast who simply does what he does best.

Groundwolf was among the Laser Beasts who occupied their underground city. LG51 Doublecross Prologue During the final battle between the Laser Beasts and the Beastformers in 2023, Groundwolf manned Wood Beetle's cannons when Tigerburn took control of it. The Road to Legends' Revival Chapter 1

In 2038, the then-peaceful Beast was invaded by Galvatron II's Decepticons. Groundwolf was part of the joint Beastformer-Laser Beast alliance that fought against the invaders. He was hurt in battle, but was healed by Tigerburn's Medical Aid Laser. The Road to Legends' Revival Chapter 3

Part of the first assortment of Takara's Beastformers individually-boxed Laser Beasts, Groundwolf is an anthropomorphic wolf in high-tech blue armor. He has a transparent orb in his torso, revealing the elemental power of Fire, Water, or Wood when you look through it into a light source.

Nominally, he comes with the wolf-themed "Death Hurricane Laser" blaster. However, there is also a chance he could come with the weapon from one of the other 11 Laser Beasts in his shipping case; matching the Beasts with their same-numbered weapons was part of the "role-playing game" attached to the line, encouraging kids to buy more of the toys.

This toy was actually released in Hasbro's Battle Beasts line as part of the "Shadow Warriors" series, but they saw extremely limited distribution, largely hitting clearance chains in the US, plus limited releases in parts of Europe. As such, it generally goes for a bit less than the later Laser Beasts that were only released in Japan, but not a lot less. There is a minor variant to the gun that has popped up in some EU and Canadian samples, though it's a bit harder to notice than most of the other gun variants: both versions have the "83" ID number stamped on the left-hand side above the wolf's teeth, but the common version has the number much larger, taking up most of the vertical space, while the variant is a fair bit smaller.

Notes

Thanks to the way katakana works, "グランド" can be used for either "grand" or "ground". There's honestly not enough context to say which is the more appropriate romanization, "Grandwolf" or "Groundwolf", so this wiki simply sticks with the longer-established one. But he can be "Grandwolf" if you like.
It is unknown what Groundwolf's Hasbro Battle Beasts name would have been.
