Judge (Cyberverse)

The Quintesson Judge is a type of Quintesson from the Cyberverse continuity family.
"I have a permit."
"...This just says 'I can do what I want.'"

In their quest to prune the multiverse of unnecessary universes, the Quintessons have devised a method for passing judgement on each universe they visit: creating a Judge from the native universe's sentient beings, so that they are each "fairly" judged by their own inhabitants. In this capacity, they command the Quintesson forces in a universe, each Judge acting until they are replaced by the next.

They are massive beings, easily towering over Cybertronians, and far from helpless, armed with many tentacles equipped with powerful blasters. If they have a fault, it's that their multiple faces may not act in perfect harmony, arguing and too focused on the vendettas of their original identities to carry out their mission.

Probably not a great sign they say "once" a universe is judged guilty, and not "if."

I once wasted an entire day looking for my dentures, when, in reality, they were in my mouth all along! Ha!

While traveling through space in the year 2007, the Quintessons (led by a Judge with five mechanical faces) came into contact with Starscream, who managed to worm his way out of a death sentence by directing them to Cybertron and the Allspark. For this, he was selected to be a part of the next Judge, alongside a Velgrox and a Gray they had already abducted. They also at some point recorded a message giving instructions to the next Judge for using unspace when their universe was judged guilty. The End Of The Universe I

Upon capturing Cybertron, the Scientist began draining the energy from the sparks of the captured Transformers and the Allspark to create a new Judge. The Scientist Upon being captured by the Prosecutors, Hot Rod was led by the Sharkticons to the Judge assigned to this universe, the same who had encountered Starscream previously. Upon beginning interrogation for how he evaded their pursuits (during which one face warned Hot Rod that the others were all crazy before laughing like a maniac and another yelled there were too many universes and that all universes should burn), the Judge responded to the Autobot's question of the Quintesson's right to judge their universe by revealing that it wasn't this universe's Judge, but that Hot Rod would wish they were. The interrogation was ultimately unsuccessful, as Hot Rod simply made up stories to buy time, so the Judge found him in contempt, ordering him to be returned to the Loop (but telling him to enjoy the parade.) However, Hot Rod would escape. The Trial

The Judge would command their legions of troops to capture Hot Rod, its faces going from demanding obedience, to threatening their wrath, to promising Hot Rod's utter destruction. The Prisoner The Autobot would proceed to threaten the safety of the gestating Judge, and provide his allies with the source code to release all the Transformers from the Loop, forcing the Judge to lower their ship and activate a massive forcefield. The Scientist While furious about this, the Scientist assured them that everything was going smoothly. The Alliance

When the united Autobots and Decepticons awakened the Titan Iaconus, the Judge was asked by Gnaw to lead their forces, but decided to assume command themselves. Leading the battle, they fired on the united Cybertronians and released a shockwave of energy in anger when Megatron and Dead End stole the multiverse drive. Ultimately, a combined force led by Hot Rod was able to defeat the Judge, sending it spinning through the air, blasting its own ship and crashing spectacularly into it. However, while the old Judge may have been destroyed, the new Judge—one bearing the heads of Starscream, the Velgrox, and the Gray—awakened and pronounced the universe guilty... The Judge

Cyberverse

[edit]
By a good few months, the second non-G1 Quintesson toy to come out before a G1 one!
  • Quintesson Invasion (Multi-pack, 2019)
    • Accessories: 2 mind-control helmets
The Cyberverse Quintesson Judge is a roughly deluxe-sized, non-transforming mold, with five different faces that rotate when the top of the body is pushed down and released. The molded tentacle base/body has four ball-jointed tentacles that can pose freely, but are hard-plastic so there's no bendy-bendy happening. As the Judge is supposed to be freakin' huge, it works better when set next to the Cyberverse Tiny Turbo Changers.
It was only available in a store-exclusive three-pack. Also included in the set are the Spark Armor Prowl and Shockwave figures, now sans the spark armor and with new mind control helmet accessories. Additionally, the mind control helmets can plug into any Battle Class spark armor figure. Ironically, Shockwave and Prowl both died before encountering the Quintessons in the actual cartoon.
The set was exclusive to Target in the United States and Toys"R"Us in Canada, and appeared at retail in December 2019 with no prior announcement by Hasbro.

Notes

[edit]
The gang's all here.
  • Unlike the other Quintessons featured in Cyberverse, the Judge is an homage to the original Quintesson Judge design introduced in Generation 1. In concept art by Léo Chiola, the Judge's green masculine, mummy-like face is "Death", the gold feminine face is "Judgement", the black feminine face is "Cruelty", the other green masculine face is "Ego", and the reddish bug-eyed face is "Chaos".<ref>Léo Chiola on Artstation</ref>
