Junkheap (AOE)

This article is about the garbage truck Decepticon from Age of Extinction. For the garbage truck Decepticon from Dark of the Moon, see Garagebot For a list of other meanings, see Junkheap (disambiguation).
Junkheap is a Decepticon from the Age of Extinction portion of movie continuity family.
Junkheap is only good for one thing. Wait...three things.

Part of KSI's upcoming range of revolutionary Transformium robots, each Junkheap is fully equipped to take out the trash, changing from a :}}Waste Management, Inc| garbage truck into three robots (or sometimes just one robot). Hopefully nobody will bring either brand into disrepute by commandeering them for an attack on a major city.

Age of Extinction film

[edit]

A full set of inactive Junkheap robots, plus a spare of the largest, greenest component, were being transported by overhead rail as the issue-prone Galvatron prototype arrived at KSI's Chinese factory facility, and a pair of Waste Management garbage trucks were also present nearby. After Galvatron—in truth possessed by the consciousness of the Decepticon leader Megatron—took control of KSI's prototype robots, he led them into Hong Kong to retrieve the ancient Seed device from humans who had fled with it, and a garbage truck was among the convoy.

A Junkheap transformed into its three robot modes when Galvatron's forces arrived at the rough location of the humans and their Autobot defenders, and participated in the battle that followed, with a yellow component seen lying defeated as Hound dispatched a white component with an enormous knife.

Although the Autobots were subsequently reinforced by the arrival of the Dinobots, Galvatron's remaining forces, including green and white Junkheap robots, later converged on the industrial site where Optimus Prime had faced down Lockdown, only to be wiped out when the Autobot leader detonated one of the bounty hunter's powerful grenades. The Last Knight film

[edit]

In Hong Kong, a yellow Junkheap unit and a green Junkheap unit fought, while a white Junkheap stood by, before joining in. At least two Junkheap units resided in Cuba, where they would play friendly games of volleyball. The Last Knight

Feed me, Seymour.
 • Junkheap (Power Battler, 2014)
Junkheap is based on his largest, green component robot, but transforms into an entire garbage truck, a genericized version of his on-screen Mack vehicle mode. His "Claw Crush!" action feature is a chomping claw which can be activated in both modes; embedded in his chest for robot, or in the back of the bin when in vehicle mode.
The figure (as well as the back of the packaging) sports the logo of :}}Waste Management, Inc|, and was initially heavily promoted as the result of a cooperation, with the toy's alternate mode revealed on the official Transformers Facebook page as part of a celebration of Earth Day.
However, as a tail-ender for the Power Battlers assortment, Junkheap eventually fell victim to "tail end of the line" syndrome, and wasn't officially released until much later than initially planned, not helped by a :}}International Longshore and Warehouse Union#2014–2015 negotiation|. Junkheap was only available in Hasbro's Asian markets, and from US-based online retailers and discount stores like Ross, T.J.Maxx and Five Below. To make matters even worse, he was only included in one wave alongside the other two new Power Battlers figures, Vehicon and High Octane Bumblebee, while a revision of said wave that includes Vehicon and Bumblebee but lacks Junkheap was actually stocked by online retailers first, with some never even bothering to list the wave that includes Junkheap.
This sculpt was also used to make Adventure Junkion.

Notes

[edit]
 • According to Hasbro's brand panel at BotCon 2014, 'stinky plastic' was briefly considered for Junkheap's toy, but the notion was vetoed for cost reasons.
 • The robot modes for Junkheap's components were revealed on Waste Management's Instagram account.
 • Junkheap's "real" vehicle mode was evidently intended as a Mack garbage truck of the same or similar model as "Garagebot"—it's seen in the key shot of him transforming, and is also reflected in the kibble of his robot modes—but it appears the prop truck was not available for the production's actual Hong Kong location shoot. A smaller Isuzu truck in a similar livery was substituted instead, although it's ultimately only visible in a single shot of the finished film, in the deep background behind the Aston Martin and McLaren drones.
 • Partially recolored versions of the Junkheap robot CGI models are used in The Last Knight to represent generic Cybertronians during the film's prologue.
