Mega Cards is a brand of card games released in Brazil by Grow. A Transformers-themed deck was released in 2007 to tie-in with the release of the first live-action Transformers film. Other licensed versions of the game include a live-action Iron Man deck and a Power Rangers Ninja Storm deck.

Gameplay

[edit]

The game includes 33 cards, of which 16 represent Autobot characters, 16 represent Decepticon characters, and an extra card representing both factions. Despite this, all cards have an Autobot side and a Decepticon side. Each card has three stats (Hit, Strength and Transformation) with different values for each faction. Each of the five Autobots and five Decepticons featured have three cards for themselves, each with unique stats and artwork. The players must decide who will side with the Autobot stats and who will side with the Decepticon stats before starting a match.

The gameplay itself is similar to that of Top Trumps, in which a player uses one card at a time to battle another player, except in this game the Autobot player is always the one who chooses the stats. To counter this advantage, some cards feature a "TF" icon that allows the Decepticon player to block the first choice of the Autobot player, who then proceeds to choose another stat before the values are revealed. The player with the higher value takes both cards and then the gameplay repeats itself until someone wins by collecting all the cards.

The game can be played by two people or by four people in pairs, with the rules changing slightly depending on the number of players.

Notes

[edit]
  • All cards make use of the now infamous promotional renders of the movie characters. As was common with most merchandise at the time, Megatron is depicted with his rejected head design instead of the approved design seen in the film itself. A head shot of the rejected design also appears on the front of the packaging.
