Mothership

Given that the Decepticons have always placed an emphasis on aerial superiority, the motherships<ref>MassiveBlack.com</ref> manage to fulfill the roles of both battle ship and carriers for the Orbital Assault Carriers.

They have tentacles on their undersides. Weird.

Fiction

Dark of the Moon film

[edit]

Several battle cruisers lay hidden beneath the surface of the Moon with the bulk of the Decepticon forces, waiting for the day the Decepticons managed to awaken Sentinel Prime. Once the pillars opened a space bridge on the surface of the Moon, the motherships rose from the surface.

When Megatron ordered the Decepticons to seal off Chicago, at least nine motherships took part in the attack, unleashing dozens of Orbital Assault Carriers on the city while also targeting buildings with their missiles. Despite their impressive firepower, the motherships did not break from their patrols to engage the Autobots or NEST when they arrived, instead serving as refueling points for the Orbital Assault Carriers. Wheelie and Brains managed to get aboard a mothership and cause it to malfunction, dropping its cargo of Orbital Assault Carriers onto Soundwave's Decepticons, allowing the capture Autobots to escape. The malfunctions also caused the mothership to crash into the Chicago River, which the diminutive Autobots assumed to be their death.

When the control pillar was destroyed, severing the space bridge bringing Cybertron to Earth, the motherships were pulled into the collapsing bridge and out of Chicago, presumably destroying them with Cybertron. Dark of the Moon

Age of Extinction film

[edit]

Several of the cruisers remained where they fell in Chicago, proving yet another large obstacle for humanity in the battle's aftermath. Technology from the motherships, including the Orbital Assault Carriers, were recovered by humans and became a hot commodity on the black market, thanks in part to a bidding war started by Russia.
