The Orbital Assault Carriers are mass-produced Decepticon starships from the live-action continuity family.
"And this Thing I saw! How can I describe it?"

Orbital Assault Carriers are small single-operator fighter ships used to give the Decepticons' protoforms air superiority on Cybertron, Earth, or whatever luckless planet is in their path. They are highly flexible craft, capable of operating at high altitude or only a few feet off the ground, hovering or at high speed. These dizzying craft are constantly twisting and reconfiguring themselves during the course of a battle to achieve the optimal mode for a particular task. Their forms include:

  • A flattened and streamlined pursuit mode
  • A hovering attack mode, with the two large central guns paired up for forward-directed fire
  • A cruising attack mode, with the two large central guns splayed out for side-directed fire

They come equipped with standard laser blasters and lethal-to-humans disintegrator rays.

They get stolen. A lot.

Dark of the Moon film

[edit]
"Of a night, all over there, Hampstead way, the sky is alive with their lights."

Many years ago, a squadron of Orbital Assault Carriers pursued the Ark as it left Cybertron's orbit, alongside Starscream, who successfully crippled its engines, sending it hurling through space, and forcing it to make a crash-landing on the Earth's Moon, waylaying Sentinel Prime's mission.

Years later, the Decepticons smuggled many of the vessels onto the lunar surface, and when a space bridge portal was opened they flew through to Washington, D.C.. After the Autobots had been exiled, the OACs proceeded to wreak havoc on the Chicago skyline, deployed from larger carriers.

Despite their maneuverability and firepower, they were not invulnerable; the Autobots shot one down as it was harrying a group of humans. The Wreckers ripped the hatch off of the craft and executed its protoform pilot, and the ship itself was commandeered by Bumblebee and his human allies. Bumblebee then used the ship to help Sam rescue Carly, though Laserbeak sent a UAV into it, downing it. Another abandoned ship was similarly taken over by Wheelie and Brains, and the duo managed to crash-land aboard a mothership and cause a vital distraction.

During the fight between Optimus Prime and Sentinel Prime, Sentinel called on the ships to fire at Optimus. Optimus tried to fight back with his blaster. However, there were too many for him to handle and he was nearly overwhelmed. Fortunately, the United States military were able to shoot them down with missiles. When the control pillar was destroyed, stopping Cybertron's journey to Earth's solar system, the remaining ships were sucked up into the collapsing portal, presumably to be destroyed by the gravitational forces. Age of Extinction film

[edit]

After the Battle of Chicago's conclusion, many Orbital Assault Carriers were among the various pieces of Transformer technology recovered by humans and began getting sold around the world. Several countries entered a bidding war for the ships that was started by Russia.

Lockdown possessed several modified OACs in his vessel, one of which was stolen by Crosshairs when the Autobots snuck aboard to rescue Optimus. Crosshairs flew out to save Bumblebee, Cade and Tessa Yeager, and Shane Dyson. The small party was pursued by Shadow Raiders piloting more Orbital Assault Carriers through the skies of Chicago, until Crosshairs instructed Cade and Shane how to operate their OAC's weaponry as he parachuted into the fray personally, taking out some of their assailants. Once Cade and Shane took out some more of their pursuers, Bumblebee flew it into an underground tunnel, where he lost control of the craft as it crashed through to the streets above. The three humans and Bumblebee proceeded to abandon the wrecked ship.

A few more modified OACs harried Optimus and the Dinobots while Lockdown utilized his ship's magnet to capture them. Slug managed to take one out simply by ramming it with his head when it came too close to the ground. Age of Extinction

The Last Knight film

[edit]

As Quintessa prepared to use her staff and the ignition chamber to revive Cybertron, Megatron summoned what remained of his army, with Orbital Assault Carriers massing around the chamber to defend it. When the Autobots and humans attacked, the OACs mercilessly downed the human air support before they drew the attention of Dragonstorm, resulting in their quick demise.

Bumblebee, Hot Rod, and Crosshairs each piloted modified OACs, with Bee dropping off Hound. Despite their piloting skills, the thick AA defences that the Decepticons had set up around the chamber kept them from getting close. When the Autobots attacked Infernocus, the combiner's firepower caused Bumblebee and Hot Rod to crash. The Last Knight

Dark of the Moon

[edit]

Flattop is jealous his schtick got stolen.
  • Starscream / Orbital Assault Carrier (Cyberverse Action Set, 2011)
  • Series: 1
  • Number: 002
  • Japanese ID number: CV03
  • Accessories: missile launcher, missile, Chicago
  • Known designers: Joe Kyde (Hasbro), Hisao Nishimoto (TakaraTomy){{#if: |, {{{2}}}}}
Cyberverse Starscream comes with an “Assault Craft” similar to the kind the Decepticons use in the film. It can convert into a “Battle Station” for Starscream to stand or sit on, and a “Space Cruiser” for Starscream’s jet mode to rest on. There are molded wheels on Starscream to nestle into the groves on top of the carrier. Sadly, a cavity on the back keeps multiple planes from being able to rest on it. All three modes sit on small wheels, and there is an additional platform below for Starscream to rest on in jet mode, although he has to face backwards. Other low-slung Legion-class figures may fit in this space, if tightly.
Several MechTech ports are available on the craft, and the removable missile launcher has a handle for it to be held by smaller Cyberverse figures as well as a 5mm post for it to attach to larger figures. There are also several C joint bars on the engines, plus one clip on the right side for connecting to other playsets.
There is an included cardboard backdrop for display, depicting Chicago under siege.

Trivia

[edit]
  • The Orbital Assault Carriers piloted by the Autobots in Age of Extinction and The Last Knight are "modified" compared to the regular Decepticon variant in the sense that they do not have the ability to reconfigure themselves. They are also shorter in length, have open canopies and gunner platforms on the rear ends, and can only fire forward due to their guns being in fixed positions. On top of that, the thrusters resemble a regular Carrier's thrusters but are flipped forward with exhaust shown coming out of the intake and vice-versa.
  • Some just so happen to have a hatch big enough for a human. How convenient.
