Dreamwave Generation One continuity

[edit]

Shortly after the Transformers' arrival on Earth in the 1980s, Nathaniel was responsible for founding the Earth Defense Command as a formal agency for interacting with extraterrestrial lifeforms and protect the Earth against any threats they might pose. He lobbied for the construction of the EDC's subterranean headquarters beneath the Nevada desert, Infestation and sponsored Project Centurion, only to decommission the latter when he later came to realize the folly of putting Cybertronian technology in the hands of humans. The Route of All Evil

In 2004, Nathaniel's granddaughter, Marissa Faireborn, was a commander in the EDC. During her first interaction with the Autobots, she quoted Nathaniel's name to silence their objections to the idea of working together, suggesting that the heroic robots had previously dealt with Nathaniel and respected him. Transformers/G.I. Joe

[edit]

Flint was one of the founding members of G.I. Joe in 1939, when it was created to put a stop to Cobra's invasion of Europe. The Line During the attack on the Fera Islands, Flint was the leader of Strike Team Two, whose mission it was to call in the fleet after Strike Team One took out the shore defenses. Trial by Fire However, just as Breaker was about the make the call, Flint noticed that he was carrying a different radio, and suspected a spy. After ordering the rest of the team to move onto their second objective, he attacked Breaker, who revealed himself to be the Cobra agent Zartan. While Flint had the upper hand in their fight, Zartan had backup in the form of Soundwave, who captured the Joe. Wolves

At the Terrordrome, the Baroness and Doctor Mindbender tortured Flint into giving up G.I. Joe's invasion plans. It would seem that they succeeded, as Cobra Commander was seen preparing a defense line some time later. Trenches It's unknown if Flint survived his captivity, as he was never seen again. Zartan would briefly take on his form in an attempt to trick the other Joes. The Iron Fist

In 1984, G.I. Joe operative Dashiell "Flint" Faireborn apologized to his commanding officer for a botched mission against the evil terrorist organization Cobra. His superior excused Flint, noting that "Nathaniel never offered apologies... just results". Targets of Opportunity

Notes

[edit]
  • As they didn't have the comic book rights to G.I. Joe, Dreamwave Productions were unable to draw a direct familial connection between Marissa Faireborn and Flint as the Generation 1 cartoon had done years beforehand. As such, the idea of Nathaniel Faireborn was conceived as a sort of "middleman", being established as Marissa's grandfather in Dreamwave's Generation 1 comics, and then as an older, unspecified relative (but almost certainly father) of Flint in the alternate reality of their G.I. Joe crossover, thereby making Marissa Flint's daughter by implication.
