When Ironhide and Ratchet transform into robot mode, part of their vehicle mode forms the Onebox component. Ironhide's becomes a weapons platform and Ratchet's is a repair bay.

Although Ironhide never deployed his separate component, he did utilize its missile launcher/laser. In van mode, he had Bumblebee climb inside and man it to trench-off a rushing flood to save a nearby town. The two times Ratchet transformed, he did so while leaving his repair bay as a separate component, which did not itself transform beyond deploying the caterpillar tracks. Ratchet loaded a car crash victim into the repair bay before reconnecting with it while transforming back into an ambulance to transport her to a hospital. Healers, Fighters, and Transformers

Wings Universe

Wings Universe is based on the Generation 1 cartoon, but deviates from it in cosmetic ways and continuity points.

Obtaining an upgraded body upon enlisting into the military, Ironhide also gained a battle platform which he nicknamed "The Cavalry." Ironhide's Wings of Honor profile

When first arriving on Earth, Ironhide and Ratchet rode their components around. The Transformers Power Play!

I talk in this issue.

Soon, however, both Ironhide and Ratchet began walking without the aid of their component.

Ratchet's component helped repair Gears. It even spoke, reporting when it finished minimum repairs on him. Prisoner of War!

Ironhide splits when he transforms, with most of the rear section of his van mode transforming into a battle platform, and the remainder becoming his rather misshapen, headless robot form.

A redeco of the original toy (well, the retooled Encore version) which homages the live-action movie Ratchet, Ratchet Emergency Green is a Japanese mail-away exclusive available with a purchase of the book Transformers Visualworks.

  • "[[wikipedia:{{#if:|:}}Car body configurations#One-box design|{{#if:One-box design|One-box design|Car body configurations#One-box design}}]]", of which the Nissan Vanette is a quintessential example, is a car style which lacks separately defined areas for the engine and trunk, as opposed to the more common two- and three-box designs (e.g. station wagons and sedans, respectively) .
  • In the first issue of the Marvel comic, there is a gun platform on the Ark that strongly resembles this component.
  • This component is absent in Ironhide and Ratchet's character models, where the robot transforms directly into the whole vehicle. The robot mode itself was extensively redesigned, giving these characters a very low degree of toy-accuracy.
  • This component is not mentioned in the text of the characters' bios, Universe profiles, or More than Meets the Eye profiles, but it is included in the artwork.
  • Other Ironhide and Ratchet toys have been produced that do not include this component. Notably, the Masterpiece toys incorporate the entire vehicle into the robot mode, but each toy comes with an accessory storage tray that resembles the original component.
