Overcast is an Autobot from the Energon portion of the Unicron Trilogy continuity family.

Overcast doesn't share the love of adventure his brother Jetfire has. In fact, Overcast refused to get involved in the war with the Decepticons, and vanished for centuries, exploring the cosmos... until one of his favorite planets was consumed by Unicron. Realizing that Megatron was working to restore the monster, Overcast reluctantly returned to his brother and took up arms in order to prevent Unicron's rebirth.

He may not like fighting, but that doesn't mean he's not good at it. He's got his brother's speed and strength, and a considerable amount of skill in combat.

During the Unicron Singularity crisis, Overcast served aboard the Autobot flagship Iron Hope. He was called into action during a Decepticon attack on the ship, and battled a trio of Decepticon jets alongside Quickstrike, Skyblast and the Sky Scorcher Mini-Con Team. Force of Habit

A redeco of the Energon Jetfire toy (and part of the final assortment of Energon toys), Mega Class Overcast transforms into a white and gray futuristic space shuttle with a non-removable blue booster rocket assembly. In this mode, he has a working spring-activated gripper-claw, plus a spring-loaded missile launcher mounted under his nosecone, which becomes a hand-held weapon. When transforming him into robot mode, pushing his head/neck plate down onto the torso activates the classic "transformation" sound effect. His left shoulder-armor has a spark crystal for mounting an Energon Chip.
When Powerlinxing with the other Autobot Mega Class toys in the line, he can either form a lower body or a torso. When forming the torso, he becomes Powerlinx Overcast. Due to the connections being the same, Overcast can also Powerlinx with the Combat Class (Deluxe) Autobot toys, but this just looks plain silly. Undocumented in the instructions is the intended way for Powerlinx Overcast to wield his missile launcher; due to the peg on the launcher used for Overcast's standard robot mode not having enough purchase in the combined mode fist, one must fold the fist panel up, and pull his robot foot up, so that it's pointing straight out of the forearm to reveal a second 5 mm port to connect the other peg into. This does make Powerlinx Overcast's fist sit up by his elbow joint in this configuration, but the intention appears to be that Overcast's foot forms an extra gun barrel for his Powerlinx form, creating a kind of gun-arm look.
Overcast has oddly non-symmetrical deco as far as his arms go. His right arm has an off-white-painted grill, with unpainted off-white plastic as the outer panel of his forearm. The left arm, however, has a silver-painted grill, with the outer panel on the forearm also painted in silver, plus a small red application on a raised area. What's the dillio?
A slightly deco-tweaked version of this toy was released in the Takara Super Link toyline as "Skyfire Sonic" (an upgraded form of Jetfire—or "Skyfire" as he was called in Japan). Overcast can be repurposed to represent this form of Jetfire, if you want him to.

  • In Japan's Superlink line, the Overcast concept is known as Skyfire Sonic, who is just an upgraded version of Skyfire (Jetfire in the U.S.). Having been animated in Japan, the Energon cartoon therefore represents the Superlink upgrade scenario (as opposed to killing off Jetfire in a [[wikipedia:{{#if:|:}}List of Futurama characters#Calculon|{{#if:Calculon-esque|Calculon-esque|List of Futurama characters#Calculon}}]] identical twin story). Only the US toyline treats this incarnation as a separate character, similar to Landmine/Landquake and Cliffjumper/Beachcomber.
