The Transformers Hot Rod's came with two gray weapons, identified as photon lasers in his instructions and packaging bio. One could be mounted on the engine block in vehicle mode, or both could be held in robot mode. Unlike almost every other Transformers toy that came with two of the same weapon, Hot Rod's photon lasers were not identical nor even symmetrical—unusually, each one had its own mold and detailing.

• Sideswipe with Vanguard (Action Master, 1991)

Released only in European and Australian markets the year after The Transformers ended in the US, Action Master Sideswipe came with a gray weapon, identified as a photon laser in his packaging bio, as well as his partner-unit Vanguard.

Masterpiece

• Rodimus Convoy (Masterpiece, 2011)

TakaraTomy's Masterpiece Rodimus Convoy came with two black weapons, for the first time individually identified as "photon laser alpha" and "photon laser beta", which can combine and extend through a spring-loaded automorph-style process into Rodimus Prime's larger photon eliminator. The guns can store within his trailer, and mount on any one of six different ports in Mobile Defense Bay mode for additional firepower. Like the original Hot Rod toy, a single photon laser can mount on the vehicle mode's engine block.

In addition to the Hasbro version, this figure was also redecoed into Black Rodimus Convoy.
