In 2036, the conflict instigated by the Decepticon High Regent Scrash unleashed the Prime Mode Plague on Earth. Though Scrash was ultimately foiled, the losses sustained by the Autobot-human alliance prompted the prototype Energon Matrix system to be sealed away until the day when it could be used for good.
