Sairon

Sairon is a Laser Beast from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Sairon (サイロン) is a very to-the-point kind of beast. He prefers to keep things simple, eschewing fancy tactics and relying on sheer, overpowering brute force. Even unarmed, he's a powerhouse who can trample his way across enemy lines with ease, making up for his slowness by simply being incredibly hard to stop. And when armed with his Heavy Push Laser (ヘビープッシュレーザー Hebī Pusshu Rēzā) MVP Weapon, he can use the powerful torque its blasts create to push away enemy combatants and even terrain with ease.

This straightforwardness doesn't merely dictate his combat tactics, it's just who he is at all times. He's unflinchingly honest, uneasy with deception and trickery. He can be pretty inflexible when dealing with others, but there's no malice behind it. Outside of battle, he's a very kind beast who cares for his fellow soldiers.

Beastformers

[edit]
  • Sairon (Laser Beast, 1988)
  • ID number: 79
  • Accessories: "Heavy Push Laser" MVP Weapon (usually)
Part of the first assortment of Takara's Beastformers individually-boxed Laser Beasts, Sairon is an anthropomorphic Indian rhinoceros in high-tech blue armor. He has a transparent orb in his torso, revealing the elemental power of Fire, Water, or Wood when you look through it into a light source.
Nominally, he comes with the rhino-themed "Heavy Push Laser" blaster. However, there is also a chance he could come with the weapon from one of the other 11 Laser Beasts in his shipping case; matching the Beasts with their same-numbered weapons was part of the "role-playing game" attached to the line, encouraging kids to buy more of the toys.
This toy was actually released in Hasbro's Battle Beasts line as part of the "Shadow Warriors" series, but they saw extremely limited distribution, largely hitting clearance chains in the US, plus limited releases in parts of Europe. As such, it generally goes for a bit less than the later Laser Beasts that were only released in Japan, but not a lot less. There is a minor variant to the gun that has popped up in some EU and Canadian samples, though it's a bit harder to notice than most of the other gun variants: both versions have the "79" ID number stamped on the left-hand side behind the "ammo drum", but the common version has the number much larger, taking up most of the vertical space, while the variant is a fair bit smaller.

Notes

[edit]
  • Sairon takes his name from the Japanese word for rhinoceros, sai (犀). Due to the r/l issue with non-Japanese words rendered in katakana, his name could potentially be "Sailon", but eh. It is not a portmanteau with "iron", as that is rendered in Japanese as aian (アイアン).
  • It is unknown what Sairon's Hasbro Battle Beasts name would have been.
