Energon Universe

[edit]

After Starscream and the Decepticons killed his clan, Transformers #6 Cliffjumper went back to the bombing site to collect the remaining spark energy of his friends. Storing their remains in a spark canister, he buried the canister under the rubble, reasoning that the Decepticons wouldn't disturb them when there appeared to be nothing left.

Millennia later, after Cliffjumper had left Cybertron and headed for Earth with Optimus Prime, then returned to Cybertron by accident, Transformers #15 Cliffjumper went with Elita One and Bluestreak to where his clan's sparks were buried, digging up the canister with the intent to use them at the Well of Sparks. While there were only pieces of each of his friends, and not enough to bring any of them back, Cliffjumper hoped that there was enough to create something new at the Well of Sparks, pointing out that Elita's resistance cell needed more warriors. Bluestreak agreed, suggesting that maybe a new Autobot could bring back hope to the scattered Autobot forces still on Cybertron. Transformers #16 Despite her reservations with the plan, Elita eventually agreed with Bluestreak that the sparks in the canister was a gift, one that could be used to fight the Decepticons, and joined Cliffjumper's team to infiltrate the Well of Sparks.

They prefer cats.

While Bluestreak, Blurr, and Warpath ran interference outside, Cliffjumper brought the canister into the hall and inserted it into the control console. Once the console determined the amount of sparks collected was enough to begin a creation event, with the push of a button the process started. The console's program scanned the remains of Carly's van for use as the secondary form, and with a flash of smoke the new Autobot stepped out of the Well of Sparks. First referring to themself as "We," then "I," they stated they recognized Cliffjumper from their past, prompting him to ask what the combined sparks of his clan was called. With a shield in one hand and an energy sword in another, the new Autobot declared their name was Shredhead. Transformers #17

Driving out of the Well of Sparks, Shredhead quickly saved Bluestreak from being eaten by crashing into Carnivac, then transformed into robot mode and cut apart Carnivac with their sword. Bitstream immediately tried to challenge them but lost his arms and guns in the process, prompting Hotlink to try and surrender. As Shredhead vertically cut him in half, Elita and Cliffjumper rejoined Bluestreak and the others, with Elita thinking that they may have just turned the tide. Transformers #18

After the battle, Shreadhead asked what Cliffjumper was looking at, to which he replied that he was thinking of a friend. Cliffjumper then asked if Shredhead still recognized him. Shredhead said that seeing Cliffjumper's face was like recalling a memory too hazy to make sense of. Shredhead then asked Cliffjumper about Carly; and Ciffjumper described her and how she was the one that painted what's on the side of Shredhead's van alternate mode. Sensing Cliffjumper's worry, Shredhead urged Cliffjumper to go and rescue her. Transformers #20 The two of them continued to talk about Carly until Elita told them she needed to show them something. Transformers #21 This turned out to be the portal that had brought Cliffjumper back to Cybertron, which could now only send a single Transformer back to Earth. Elita had chosen to send Cliffjumper back, as she believed that Shredhead would contribute greatly to the war effort. After she gave them a moment to say some farewells, Cliffjumper told Shredhead to say hello to Carly for him and then shoved them through the portal.Transformers #22

Shredhead emerged from the portal in the remains of the Nemesis on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. They promptly converted to their alt mode and began driving along the ocean floor in search of Carly. Transformers #23

Soon afterwards, they arrived in Chicago just in the nick of time to interrupt Megatron before he could shoot Carly and Spike. Greeting Carly and telling her that Cliffjumper said hello, they proceeded to knock an attacking Soundwave off the side of the building and then freed Optimus Prime to resume his fight with Megatron. In the aftermath, Shredhead stood overlooking the city. Transformers #24

Shredhead assisted in the cleanup efforts in Chicago, helping Beachcomber and Carly rescue victims trapped in the rubble. They received a compliment from Arcee for their work. Transformers #26

Notes

[edit]
  • On the letters page of Transformers #17, Skybound editor Ben Abernathy stated that Shredhead had been in the pipeline for some time before their debut in Transformers #17.
  • Also in the letters page of issue #17, both Ben and Daniel Warren Johnson refer to Shredhead with they/them pronouns, and so this page refers to them as such.
  • Shredhead's alt mode is based on the GMC Vandura, famously used as the van from the [[wikipedia:{{#if:|:}}The A-Team|{{#if:||The A-Team}}]].
