This article is about the Energon Omnicon. For the live-action movie Autobot, see Signal Flare (Movie){{#switch:{{#sub:Signal Flare (Movie)|-1}} != .= ?= .

Signal Flare is an Autobot-allied Omnicon from the Energon portion of the Unicron Trilogy continuity family.
Looks like he's having a flare-up

Signal Flare is a craftsman; he loves spending his time carefully sculpting raw Energon into powerful weapons. He's considerably less interested in applying them to combat, though he's certainly no slouch in that department. Still, he'd rather leave the slice-and-dice to his feistier brother Offshoot.

He is very intelligent, and his ability to both detect and manipulate Energon in its various forms, be it solid, energy or gaseous, makes him an invaluable member of the Autobot forces.

Sometimes there are lots of him, other times he starts every statement with "CRZ!".

A team of Signal Flares was vital in the process of building energon towers. A Signal Flare also scanned and replicated the Energon Sword. The New Cybertron City Afterward he told Optimus Prime that he would be able to duplicate the sword from the information he gathered. Megatron Raid Later, he told a bad joke to Skyblast as the invisible Starscream passed by. Both Omnicons felt a presence, but dismissed it as nothing. Another Signal Flare was stationed on Lunar City, working monitor duty when Hot Shot asked a Skyblast Omnicon for some energon stars. Starscream the Mysterious Mercenary

History shows again and again
how nature points up the folly of man

A cadre of Signal Flares fired their beams upward to help power up a newly installed energon tower during a Decepticon attack Energon Tower and repeated the action again for future towers. The Legend of Rodimus

Signal Flare held Kicker's captured Battle Ravage on a leash while searching for energon on the moon. When the Battle Ravage turned on a new heading, he and Kicker followed. They ran into Demolishor and a number of additional Battle Ravages as a trap set by the Decepticons to capture Kicker. Signal Flare took out a few Battle Ravages before Kicker surrendered. Later when the Omnicon survivors of Lunar City made themselves known, more Signal Flares pulled a new energon tower onto the city. Kicker Beware!

Sure, the lassoing looks cool, but you ain't done till he's hogtied.

When the Autobots decided to go after Unicron, Signal Flare prepared the space bridge for the new Miranda II starship with a trajectory to Asteroid City. Go for Unicron! Later during the Unicron assault on Cybertron, a few Signal Flares followed Kicker through a warp gate to the planet's surface. They bore with them Energon Stars, but had arrived too late to help the Autobots fend off a Decepticon raid on Primus's chamber. Unicron Unleashed Later a plethora of Strongarms emerged from a space bridge to help the Autobots after they entered the rift in space. They boarded the Miranda II and followed Optimus Prime's team Ripped Up Space through the spatial tear. Team Optimus Prime Protection

His arm always got tired from being their beach umbrella.

While creating a supply of energon stars, Signal Flare reported from Blizzard City, stating their supply was 500 stars or so. At the same time another Signal Flare finished with the repairs of Wing Dagger into the new Wing Saber. Open Fire! Later during a lull in combat, a Signal Flare relaxed on Jungle Planet, loving the place regardless of reason. As he lay back, an Energon Star spontaneously generated itself on his chest. After a battle with the Decepticons, while the Autobots thanked Bulkhead, Signal Flare helped demonstrate that the Omnicons were now able to generate Energon on the new Jungle Planet by absorbing the energon sun's rays. Jungle Planet He continued to relax, catch rays, and generate more energon stars. Bulkhead

Multiple Signal Flares continued to work on the planets the Autobots were set to defend. One accompanied Kicker to Rock Planet. Another was with Rodimus at Blizzard Planet. Another Signal Flare continued to create Energon stars by relaxing. Another was part of the team to keep an eye on Inferno while he played decoy. As Inferno was turning into a Decepticon, Signal Flare fired an energon star into Inferno to attempt to bring him back to the Autobot side. Farewell Inferno

During the Autobot race, Signal Flare were present in the audience as well as participants in the race itself. Crash Course Much later after a number of Autobots were confined to sick bay after a disastrous battle with Unicron, a Signal Flare warned Kicker of a "Code Orange"; injured patients busting out of sick bay. Upon arriving on the bridge, however, he found that Kicker already knew, since that's where all the patients had gone off to. Roadblock requested that "Nurse Flare" give them energon stars so they could join the battle, but Signal Flare insisted the Autobots still needed repairs before they were to see action. In the end, the patients were talked into a much less strenuous activity: coordinating an assault on Unicron using energon towers. Unicron Perishes

When the Autobots engaged in a virtual combat game, several Signal Flares cheered the combatants on from the arena stands. Distribution

Later some Signal Flares stationed on Ocean Planet accompanied Optimus Prime back to Cybertron via the space bridge.Galvatron Terror Once through, Optimus instructed them to follow Jetfire as he headed down to Cybertron. The Signal Flares were led to the pool of super energon hidden in Cybertron's underground, where they cut a massive tether that Galvatron (now grown to enormous proportions thanks to the power of the miraculous fuel) was using to tow Cybertron through space. Once that task was done, the Omnicons went to work processing the contents of the pool into super energon stars that would be used to revive Primus. Destructive Power They remained on Cybertron and reacted in awe as a new sun was created. The Sun

Let me DISH you a question! ...Wait.

Signal Flare and his fellow Omnicons were upgraded Mini-Cons. He and Skyblast guarded Over-Run's access point in the Mini-Con village Six-Beta. When Optimus approached them to speak with the Mini-Con, they questioned whether or not he was the real Optimus Prime. Over-Run told them it was alright, and the two Omnicons allowed Optimus to speak with his old partner in peace. This Evil Reborn Later, they were sent by Over-Run to assist Optimus Prime in repelling Unicron's Four Horsemen. What Lies Beneath, Part Two They then went to Earth to stop Scorponok and his Terrorcons in Australia by providing cover-fire for Optimus's team. What Lies Beneath, Part Four

Proving to be a bit too out of control to base near human cities, the Omnicons were sent to the site of a new Energon well in the Yukon. They were captured by Snow Cat while blowing off some steam, who attempted to rewrite their programming to turn them into Decepticons. Subconsciously guided by the snarky floating advice-giving head of Over-Run, they managed to break free by combining their powers. Signal Flare and his teammates were still left at a disadvantage, being in an unfamiliar territory, ill-equipped for its snowy conditions. But by slowing down and taking in information about their whereabouts, the Omnicons were able to defeat Snow Cat and gain better understanding of their abilities. Omni-Potent

On a mission with Kicker Jones to the Black Sea in Turkey to locate a new energon well underwater, Signal Flare created the energon bubble that protected Kicker from the crushing pressure of the deep sea. They were attacked by Mirage (who had previously butted heads with them as Tidal Wave), Slugslinger and Sharkticon, who were attempting to capture the energon-empathic human. Multiplicity Signal Flare had little chance to fight back against these aggressors, as he was blasted and knocked unconscious almost as soon as they made their presence known. Multiplicity, Pt. 2 Signal Flare was left in a beaten down heap with the other Omnicons, Multiplicity, Pt. 3 until Kicker’s powers revitalized them. Now back in full working order, Signal Flare and the other Omnicons managed to force the Decepticons into a retreat. Multiplicity, Pt. 4

Energon ceased publication before the story could conclude. The following would have taken place in unpublished issues.

The Omnicons were summoned by Over-Run to save him from the energon-hungry ghost of Starscream. Armageddon Part 1 They did not arrive in time to save Over-Run, finding him already dead with Starscream looming over his carcass. Seeking revenge, the Omnicons attacked Starscream, only to discover that their energon weaponry only served to make him stronger. Though Signal Flare and Arcee nearly became the next victims of Starscream's energon-draining powers, they were rescued from this fate by Sky Blast. Finally realizing how outmatched they were, the Omnicons next attempted to flee, only for Starscream to pursue them relentlessly. They eventually defeated Starscream by allowing him to drain all their energies at once, creating a two-way link that the combined Omnicons used to reverse the process and drained Starscream instead Armageddon Part 2 When Quintessons invaded Cybertron, the Omnicons connected to the Hub in search of information that could help them. They found a message from Over-Run, telling them that they were guides to an evolutionary step that all Transformers must take, but it was then more important that they tapped into Cybertron's core and used its energon to help the planet's population. After Optimus Prime helped them unlock the core, the Omnicons used their energon stars to recharge battle-weary Autobots until the battle was won. Armageddon Part 5

MASER? I hardly knew 'er!
Hasbro version pictured
One of these Signal Flares was washed in Tide.
Takara version pictured
  • Signal Flare (Energon Class, 2004)
  • Takara ID number: SC-12
  • Takara release date: March 25, 2004
  • Accessories: "Monage Flap" radar dish, 2 "Twin Antenna" shields, Autobot energon chip
  • Known designers: Aaron Archer (Hasbro), Shogo Hasui (TakaraTomy){{#if: |, {{{2}}}}}
Released in the third wave of Hasbro Energon "Energon Class" toys (Basics, basically), Signal Flare transforms into a Cybertronian half-track MASER tank. In both modes, moving the MASER cannon-arm in any way causes the end of the arm to slowly rotate around.
He comes with several clear-plastic "energon" parts that attach to his MASER arm: a radar dish assembly with a free-spinning portion, and two "shields" that attach to the sides of the cannon-base. These parts all combine together to form the Ultimate Energon Weapon "Energy Cutter" (only named in the Takara release). One of the shields has a Mini-Con-style Powerlinx port, letting it activate Armada-mold Powerlinx gimmicks. He also has an Autobot-style energon chip that can attach the spark crystal of most Energon-series toys, demonstrating this gimmick via the spark crystal on his chest/roof.
The Takara Super Link version of Signal Flare changes almost every plastic color, but stays within the same general theme. The light blue and tan plastics are both much paler shades, and all of Hasbro Signal's medium-blue plastic has been replaced with dark brown, the only plastic color they share. He also has a more red-tinged "energon" plastic than the Hasbro version's watermelon-y color, which better matches the other Takara Omnicons's energon parts (and the Hasbro redeco of Signal Flare, Offshoot). His paint applications have also undergone a number of changes, including fully painting his treads brown rather than just dirt-washing them, using a matching lighter tan on his knees, using a darker blue paint and extending said blue to the sides of his toes, and dropping the silver on his left arm except within the negative spaces of the Autobot symbol.
This mold is also used by his brother Offshoot, and the live-action-movie-series Signal Flare. The Signal Flare/Offshoot body design is used as the model for the Attacktix Omnicon.
His energon weapon was also redecoed by itself: an orange version packed in with Takara's Hot Shot F (aka Energon Hot Shot), and a bright yellow version released as a promotional giveaway at multiple Japanese stores.

Now the awkward moment of realization when we all realize that Offshoot's deco is just Signal Flare's in a reverse scheme.
  • Signal Flare USA Edition (Energon Class, 2004)
  • Release date: July 24, 2004
  • Accessories: "Monage Flap" radar dish, 2 "Twin Antenna" shields, Autobot energon chip
In Japan, the Offshoot toy was sold as a new incarnation of Signal Flare, as a "USA Edition". He was sold in Hasbro packaging, with Japanese stickers giving him the "Signal Flare" name and relaying important legal information, and with the Super Link Signal Flare's instructions packed in instead of Offshoot's.
It was first available at Takara's booth at the Tokyo Character Show 2004, held on July 24th and 25th of 2004. It was later sold through Gamers stores, first available on August 8.
