Slice and dice

Unlike his brother Signal Flare, Offshoot doesn't care about working in the energon mines. He'd rather use his impressive energon-sculpting abilities as an Omnicon to make weapons, and then use those weapons to shred Decepticon armor. He's a very skilled combatant, even earning the praise of Optimus Prime, but his tendency to show off for his teammates has left him vulnerable to unseen attackers.

Energon

[edit]
In America I'm Offshoot, but in Japan I'm just an offshoot... of Signal Flare.
  • Offshoot (Energon Class, 2004)
  • Accessories: Energon dish, 2 energon shields, Autobot energon chip
Released in the fourth wave of Energon "Energon Class" toys (effectively "Basics"), Offshoot is a redeco of Signal Flare, transforming into a Cybertronic half-track MASER tank. In both modes, moving the MASER cannon-arm in any way causes the end of the arm to rotate around.
He comes with several clear-plastic "energon" parts that attach to his MASER arm: a radar dish assembly with a free-spinning portion, and two "shields" that attach to the sides of the cannon-base. These parts all combine together to form his "Energy Cutter" "Ultimate Energon Weapon". One of the shields has a Mini-Con-style Powerlinx port, letting it activate Armada-mold Powerlinx gimmicks. He also has an Autobot-style energon chip that can attach the spark crystal of most Energon-series toys, demonstrating this gimmick via the spark crystal on his chest/roof.
In Japan, Offshoot was sold as a new incarnation of Signal Flare, available only as a "USA Edition" toy.
This mold was also used to make live-action-movieverse Signal Flare. The Signal Flare/Offshoot body design was used as the model for the Attacktix Omnicon. His "Energon Cutter" weapon mold was also used to make a pair of exclusive energon weapons in Japan; the "Energy Cutter Daylight Attack Edition", plus an orange version as a bonus pack-in with the Super Link Hot Shot Fire upgrade.
