Beast Wars

[edit]
  • Spy Shot & Claw Gun (Roleplay, 1999)
Released as part of the Beast Wars Neo toyline, the Spy Shot & Claw Gun roleplay toy is made up of three components; the blue soft foam Spy Bird, the Spy Shot pistol, and the red and gold not-gun-shaped Claw Gun. The Spy Shot is loaded by pulling the sliders on either side back and slotting the solid plastic piece on the bottom of the Spy Bird into it. The Spy Shot trigger isn't be able to fire unless the Spy Bird is inserted, as it needs to push back a small plastic "safety". If the Claw Gun is attached when fired, it makes an electronic noise. It will also snap the gold claw forward if it is pulled back. The Claw Gun can also be worn on one finger as a separate weapon. The wearer can trigger the noise and claw snap action by flexing their finger to press the button on the underside.
Stampy gives a warning on the back of the packaging telling you not to shoot the Spy Shot at other people. Good advice.
The Claw Gun includes two button button cell batteries for its electronic function. Years later, it's very common to open a sealed Spy Shot & Claw Gun and find them heavily corroded, to the point where the electronics are no longer functional. With said corrosion issue and it being a Japanese only release, it's unclear what noise the Claw Gun actually makes at this time, as no-one has come forward with a working version. Can you help?

Notes

[edit]
  • Some misunderstand the "Claw Gun" to be the "Crow Gun", as the two loanwords are phonetically rendered the same in Japanese. However, the "Claw Gun" is spelled as such on the packaging and refers to the clawed component, not the "Spy Bird" or the "Spy Shot" pistol that fires it.
