Stanton is a human from the Cybertron portion of the Unicron Trilogy continuity family.

You know I can't give you the keys, right babe?

Mr. Stanton is Coby Hansen's teacher in mechanics and presumably the only mechanic in Rockville. He is a long-time family friend of the Hansens due to their involvement in motocross rallies. He doesn't mind when people try to steal his tools to fix giant robots.

After a giant robot from outer space was found by Coby, Bud, and Lori, the elder Hansen boy went to Mr. Stanton's garage to "borrow" some of his tools. The mechanic caught the boy in the act, but was kind enough to let the boy take both his toolbox and his ATV for the day. Inferno

Mr. Stanton began giving Coby more advanced lessons in mechanics. He grew confused, however, when the boy was at his workshop instead of seeing his elder brother off, after his visit with the family had ended. Coby told his teacher that he had friends that needed him to learn more about machines for their sake. As if on cue, Coby then received a phone call letting him know that his mechanical know-how was needed. Search

A few days later, Coby told Mr. Stanton about a race he had seen, filled with all sorts of incredible stunts. Mr. Stanton assumed that had Coby made the whole thing up, and suggested that the boy consider writing cartoons to give life to his wild ideas. Detour

As Stanton witnessed Starscream's army combing the town on the news, Tim Hansen came by his shop looking for Coby. He offered to help Tim look for his missing family as the invasion continued. He and Tim's girlfriend later picked Tim up after he got left stranded on the roadside looking for his brothers. Retreat
