Strong Panda

Strong Panda is a Beastformer from the Generation 1 continuity family.
Ironically, not involved in the Meiji Battle Card series.

Strong Panda (ストロングパンダ Sutorongu Panda) always wanted to help people, thus he trained hard to become a doctor, learning to heal injuries and cure illnesses of all types. From traditional medicine to cyborg surgery, he strived to learn all he could. This has even led to more mystical abilities, giving him literal healing hands, capable of removing illnesses through simple physical contact. Now the kind-hearted King of East Yutoranta, he works to ensure his people lead happy, healthy lives, and his warmth and gentleness have made him beloved.

He rarely enters combat, but will do so to protect those under his care. His knowledge of anatomy allows him to quickly note and target enemies' weak points, striking with extreme precision to keep fights short. He is aided by the powerful MVP Weapon Strong Aid (ストロングエイド Sutorongu Eido), which nominally can draw "life energy" from the universe, which Panda uses to heal injuries... but he can also reverse the flow, and draw in life energy from an opponent, sapping and draining them. Much to his relief, this power is not actually lethal, as returning the flow of energy back to normal can revive those who were drained into submission.

  • Strong Panda (Beastformer, 1987)
  • ID number: 53
  • Pack: E
  • Accessories: Sword (usually)
Part of the third series of Takara's Beastformers toys, Strong Panda is an anthopomorphic giant panda in white robotic armor. The Battle Emblem on his chest reveals one of three symbols when warmed up; Fire, Water or Wood.
Nominally, he comes with a gray sword marked with a "53". However, there is also a chance he could come with the weapon from one of the other 11 Beastformers in his shipping case; it is unclear why this happened.
He was only available in the "E Pack" assortment, and came in a green-grid generic "Cybertron Beastformer" box. He came with a bio card with a comic-style character image on a jungle backdrop, though there was a chance his bio card would instead be replaced with the rare "VS Holography Mirror" card featuring Green Chameles and Platinum Tiger.

Beastformers

[edit]
  • Strong Panda (Beastformer, 1988)
  • Beast ID number: 53
  • Accessories: "Strong Aid" MVP Weapon (usually)
Re-released in the Transformers-less Beastformers sequel series, Strong Panda was given a straight re-release with new packaging and a new, more filled-out bio card with corrected coloring. This new card also gave his weapon, now branded an "MVP Weapon", the name "Strong Aid". Speaking of, just like with the Transformers release, there was a chance he could come with the weapon of any other Beastformer in the shipping case; this time the potential mix-up was played up as part of the "Beastformers Role-Playing Game" attached to the line, encouraging kids to buy more of the toys; matching the Beasts with their same-numbered weapons gave them more power in-game.
He was sold in the second assortment of individually-packed Beastformers, with a peg-hole in the top flap, and a sticker on the bottom with his name and role on it. This series did not have any kind of "rare card" random pack-in promotion.
Late in the run, the "mood ring" styled rubsigns were replaced with new rubsigns that revealed full-color Fire/Wood/Water images on black backdrops. (These rubsign variants also happened at the same time in the Hasbro Battle Beast version of the line.)

Notes

[edit]
  • His 1988 bio card gives him the imaginative nickname "Panda" (パンダ).
