...I really don't think a used car salesman qualifies as a "Magical Negro." Even the Wikipedia article linked disagrees with the assessment. --ItsWalky 14:36, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

That's our Hooper. --Sntint 14:59, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, while in the trailer he does talk about a "mystical bond" and whatnot, I think that's pretty likely just supposed to be salesman smooth talking. --KilMichaelMcC 20:47, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Is 'magical negro' like Finnegan's rainbow or something? (A play I once had the delight of seeing a bunch of white high school students perform in blackface.) Is it an actual classification like (I gather) 'magical girl' is? -Derik 20:51, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

I said "probably" because we don't know exactly how the movie will play out, but he definitely shows up, is a nice helpful brother, says some mystical mumbojumbo to help the white hero, and then goes away. Tyrese, on the other hand, is a strong nubian god. (and hte term, Derik, comes from literary criticism. it isn't exactly in the dictionary, but in the right circles it's fairly well recognized. so yeah, I guess it is like 'magical girl.' the first time i remember hearing it, iirc, was from a spike lee commentary. 76.20.253.233 23:28, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
I think to be a "Magical Negro," Bolivia has to give the car to Sam for free because he's such an awesome white boy and then give his life for him at the end of the movie -- in the process, making us feel better about oppressing those poor black folk because they're so nice to us regardless. Otherwise, Bolivia's just giving a sales pitch. --ItsWalky 00:10, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
It sounded like a lit crit term, that's why I asked dumkof. -Derik 00:23, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Although it seems unnecessary, I'd love to make mention that Comic Adaptation Bobby has a giant honkin' afro. Trivia? --Terrocon Blot 02:29, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

I am irked that Bobby Bolivia actually says "Mammy".--MCRG 04:00, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Storybook Bobby sure is more touchy-feely, and abit more rotound. --FFN 07:17, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

I really think we shouldn't have a Movie Storybook image under the "Transformers (2007) film" header, especially with a snark caption obfuscating its source. Moving. -Rotty 15:24, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
