Talk:Die-cast
This article should be renamed, but I'm undecided on the better way to go. The current name is no good because it's an adjective. Possible renames are "Die-cast metal" or "Die-casting". I kind of prefer the latter, since even "die-cast metal" is sort of unspecific. You can cast a lot of different metals in a die. Also, the first sentence needs to be rewriten, since die-cast is not a type of metal, but I figure we may as well wait until a new article title is decided upon. --Steve-o 03:58, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
- Die-cast in Transformers, covering both hit's hsitorical uses, attitudes towards, and in-jokes about. DC is still short for 'die cast metal,' but that's a common shortening. Spell it out more explicitly in the opening sentence. -Derik 04:03, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
Do we know WHAT metal was used for the G1 figures? I've heard Zinc, but that wasn't from a metallurgist or anything... In any event, the first sentance needs a rewrite. Die-cast is a method of forming metal, not the metal itself.
- ZAMAC, a tasty stew of Zinc, Aluminum, MAgnesium, and Copper. I wrote a buncha stuff, maybe too much, but there are a lot of misconceptions about die-cast metal and die-casting in the fandom. -Autobus Prime 18:42, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
Minor rewrite needed
[edit]that nebulous quantity known as "quality" is a cute turn of phrase, but it doesn't actually make sense. I think "concept" is a better word here. Chaotic nipple 18:55, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- I sort of took that to be referring to some fans' penchant for treating "quality" like a quantifiable thing. --Steve-o 19:19, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- As do a lot of other people, particularly QA types. I was going for the turn of phrase. "Nebulous concept" sounds just a bit too negative, however. Quality, we all seem to agree, does exist, but is hard to quantify, hence the nebula. Perhaps 'elusive quantity' would be better? -Autobus Prime 21:18, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- How about "nebulously quantified concept of 'quality'"? Chaotic nipple 04:12, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
- A bit too much Perceptor in that one, I think. -Autobus Prime 12:22, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
