Talk:Kicker Jones

Yeah, tweaking the bio to make it based less on one continuity is all well and good, but can somebody who has read the Energon comics come up with something for Kicker? I don't read any of the TF comics, that's why I hardly ever mention them. --FFN 06:32, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

He was an afterthought in the comics. His only real scene is acting like a wuss when Mirage attacked. He is tossed out into the ocean per his annoyance and pulls a Jesus H. Christ, walking on water back to the scene of the battle.

Naming

[edit]

Do we really want the page at "Chad "Kicker" Jones"? It seems kind of, uh, ugly. Are we going to move everybody who uses their nickname more than their first name? —Interrobang 07:49, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Hey, who moved the page? It was agreed in 2006 that the page be left as Kicker, since that's the name 95% of people who have any interest in Energon would know him by, and Chad Jones was only in the Dreamwave comic, which, by comparison to the cartoon, was positively obscure.
"Character articles about humans should use the human's full name if known. Characters with multiple names (as in the case of alter-egos) should have their article listed under their most prominent name, even if that means a human is listed under a code name instead of their real full name. For more detail on these complications, see Disambiguation." --FFN 15:09, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

KICKER KICKER BLAH BLAH BLAH KICKER

[edit]

you guys use that a lot. where do you get it? ShinkisRule 15:31, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

...from the cartoon?--RosicrucianTalk 15:40, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
We should really take the time clarify when people ask us about our own lame jokes. Ahem. "Kicker, Kicker our planets, Kicker!" was one of a series of nonsensical lines spouted by Alpha Q in the Energon. It's stupid and moderately amusing. --FFN 16:43, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
oh, yeah. he does say lots of goofy things. ShinkisRule 19:14, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Brian Jones, Jr.

[edit]

His dad calls him "Junior" twice in Energon Tower, so isn't "Brian Jones, Jr." his real name? - Starfield 23:32, 9 May 2010 (EDT)

Junior has a bunch of meanings and isn't limited to people who have the same names as their father. I think it'd be too much of a leap to assume Kicker's real name is "Brian". --abates 23:59, 9 May 2010 (EDT)
If a father is calling his son "Junior" I think it is the most natural. "Kicker" has got to be a nickname and the story is letting us know his real name. The cartoon was made after The Last Crusade ("We named the dog 'Indiana'"). Plus his son protests at being called Junior. "Tell my dad that there isn't anyone called 'Junior' here." (because he's angsty and doesn't get along with his dad and wants everyone to call him by his cool nickname.) That doesn't make much sense if his dad was using "junior" casually. - Starfield 00:34, 10 May 2010 (EDT)
I disagree. To me it sounds like Kicker is his real name, and he hates it when his dad calls him by the nickname "junior." If he was calling him "squirt" or "kiddo" we wouldn't assume his name is Squirt Jones. -- Semysane 03:39, 10 May 2010 (EDT)
Dr. Jones: There he is! Been lookin' all over the place for you, kiddo!
Kicker: Tell my dad there isn't anyone called "kiddo" here.
Misha: You know, I'm pretty sure you just told him yourself.
more conversation
Dr. Jones: Kiddo, can I buy you a soda...?
That doesn't quite work in my opinion. He addresses him as "Kiddo" a second time even after Kicker told him not to. He is pretty persistent about it. And people don't normally say "Kiddo, can I buy you a soda?" they say "Can I buy you a soda, kiddo?" I still think Indiana Jones would be fresh in the writers' minds. His dad is even named Dr. Jones! And I think it is a stretch to assume "Kicker" is a real human name, even in a Transformers cartoon. But I suppose I could chalk the whole thing up to Dr. Jones being a bit strange. - Starfield 10:25, 10 May 2010 (EDT)
To me it just reads as an elder reinforcing just who is the adult here. I often hear adults call children "junior" even if they are not related. Kicker's protest is to remind his father that he ISN'T "Brian Jones, Jr.", he is his own person both in name and personality. --Khajidha 11:08, 10 May 2010 (EDT)
For what it is worth, if these subtitles are accurate, in Superlink Dr. Jones calls him Junior three times (once when he is knocking on his door, "Hey! Junior! You there?"). In the later scene his son responds, "Tell him to not call me 'Junior' here." Whoever subtitled that capitalizes Junior, so they agree with me. - Starfield 11:29, 10 May 2010 (EDT)
Not necessarily, I know people who go by Junior but who aren't actually juniors. I also know of people actually named Junior. Not "Soandso Somethingorother, Jr.", but actually "Junior Somethingorother". --Khajidha 11:57, 10 May 2010 (EDT)

Homophobia?

[edit]

Fie on your warnings, I'm asking: is this for real? Because if it's not, it shouldn't be listed amidst "real" facts in an otherwise serious intro paragraph. --Thylacine 2000 (talk) 23:05, 17 February 2014 (EST)

I just saw that; it says not ask but when it's at the top of the page it better have a reason for being there. Was there something in the show or any material to suggest this? Cuz if not we should remove it.--BlackStarscream (talk) 02:16, 17 December 2014 (EST)

Dont exist?

[edit]

Shouldn't all energon related things be under things that don't exist??? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Arren1234 (talkcontribs){{#if:| {{{2}}}|}}.

No. --Boingus (talk) 14:11, 1 January 2018 (EST)

Real Name

[edit]

Shouldn't his real name be added, i mean in both the american and japanese version, his dad called him Junior, which means Kicker is a nickname.--Pizza-king1 (talk) 18:37, 9 August 2023 (EDT)

No, for all the reasons listed above. It's also not his name in the comics, where his first name is Chad. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 18:42, 9 August 2023 (EDT)
Then shouldn't we add a disclaimer that in certain universes his real first name is Chad. Like someone did with Sparkplug Witwicky??--Pizza-king1 (talk) 18:50, 9 August 2023 (EDT)
Okay I made the edit, So please don't delete it, especially since Dr. Jones wiki entry literally calls Kicker Brian. This is less me being an obstinate idiot, and just making sure the information on both pages are accurate.--Pizza-king1 (talk) 19:11, 9 August 2023 (EDT)
It shouldn't be on Dr. Jones's page, so it's been removed. Also, unless you can actually prove his name is "Brian Jones Junior" with definitive concrete evidence, you shouldn't and it to the page. For all you know, Junior could just be a term of endearment. Or maybe Junior is actually his first name. Either way, it stays off the page. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 19:53, 9 August 2023 (EDT)
