Talk:Licensed vehicle alternate modes

I know there's no article yet, so I'm just using the talkpage as a sounding board. Is this an article that would be worth starting? I personally think there's a lot of great material we can discuss here, from the first unlicensed but blatantly matched Diaclone toys, to the first lawsuits from auto manufacturers, to the initial deals Hasbro and Takara worked out with Chrysler allowing the Dodge Viper in RiD, and the subsequent licensing talks and back-and-forth regarding Alternators/Binaltech. It'd be a great forum to discuss the difficulties with Volkswagen as well. Also a good place to list all toys with officially licensed vehicle modes. What do you guys think?--RosicrucianTalk 00:12, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Another main reason I'm sounding things out here is that I don't have all of this info at my fingertips other than knowing that there was a change in thought regarding real-life vehicles at several points during the brand's history, with significant signposts being the changeover to the animated movie characters during G1, the first official licensed vehicles in RiD, the largest application of it in Alternators, and the final result of Hasbro and GM skipping along the beach to the tune of "So Happy Together" as of the live-action movie.--RosicrucianTalk 15:28, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Doesn't RID Axer's box also carry licensed vehicle info? Or is it Sideways who does? --M Sipher 21:47, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

It might well. It's a work in progress and I freely admit that my knowledge is less than complete here. It just seemed like the sort of article we should do. If I'm missing something or getting something wrong, feel free to join in.--RosicrucianTalk 21:52, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Side Burn

[edit]

Putting together some of the peculiarities of how the licensing went in RiD and I want to make sure I'm getting this right. To my recollection Side Burn's first toy was not an officially licensed Dodge Viper, and it was not until the Super Side Burn (and later Universe) deco that the viper symbol was put on the car and the Dodge trademark info molded into the toy. I'm also under the impression that none of the corresponding Car Robots figures incorporated these changes. Is this correct? Is there a particular story here that needs to be told as to why the changes got made?--RosicrucianTalk 00:31, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

And let me tell you, it's borderline frustrating that Google indexes Wikia so fast that when trying to do my homework on this article (which was started just yesterday) I end up finding out that the first result of my searches is... this article.--RosicrucianTalk 13:54, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Same topic, different question: I recall hearing that the blue Side Burns released in Europe, or at least some of them, were produced late enough that they had the Viper logo tampo. I've never actually seen one. Any yeas or nays? -LV 21:38, 12 November 2011 (EST)

Star Wars

[edit]

What of the Star Wars Transformers? They're certainly licensed vehicle modes... just not ones that exist in reality. —Interrobang 01:16, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Good point. Though they're Hasbro leveraging a license they already have, they certainly qualify. I'll add them.--RosicrucianTalk 01:39, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Texty

[edit]

This article is extremely text-heavy right now, so if you guys spot photos we already have that would look good in it to illustrate points, go nuts. I don't think we need to do the toy section necessarily, but the history section could probably use a few to vary the layout.--RosicrucianTalk 17:57, 16 June 2009 (EDT)

Star Wars vehicles

[edit]

Do we really need links to each of the licensed Star Wars vehicles? We don't do this for regular cars and trucks and I do not see how there is information on, say, the "Snowspeeder" that isn't covered on Luke Skywalker's page. This is especially true when we limit ourselves into what is directly verifyable as part of the crossover media. Heck, we have to cite our sources for Galactic Empire and such. So I don't seen any useful information here other than cluttering up the Wanted Pages section. Any thoughts on this matter before I start trimming out the links? --Bluestreak7 00:16, 11 August 2009 (EDT)

Why are there two sections with Star Wars vehicles in? --abates 23:57, 7 January 2010 (EST)

Organized by toyline. SWTF is the precursor of Crossovers, but they're two separate toylines.--RosicrucianTalk 00:02, 8 January 2010 (EST)
