Onslaught
[edit]Didn't Starscream steal the 'personality components' of the Combaticons from Cybertron in the G1 cartoon? This would mean that Onslaught existed before his familiar form did, and as such could have budded Mindset before being imprisoned. Of course, that'd mean you'd be mixing the cartoon and the comics together as one, which probably leads to all sorts of problems. But it's a thought. Jeep! 19:30, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
- They were certainly stolen but the comic is a different state of affairs - in US G1 continuity Starscream is out of action between issues #19 and some point off panel between #41 & #47 (okay he's around a bit more in the UK continuity but that already explains the Combaticons). There is the infamous cameo of Defensor in issue #47, and as the Headmasters cast don't appear to have had contact with Earth yet have the combining Technobots and Terrorcons amongst them it's possible the Combaticons came from Cybertron, similar to the Predacons.
- But the real problem with all this is that if Onslaught participated in the budding then one has to wonder why Megatron's/Bludgeon's Decepticons don't know about it - why for instance does Bludgeon need the Matrix for new warriors?
- One possibility is that Onslaught isn't Mindset's "father" but rather a sibling or even an off shoot who was deemed unworthy and never taken with the Cybertronians. It's been a while since I've read that scene but I don't recall it being as clear-cut as the "Mindset is descended from Onslaught" as it's presented here. Timrollpickering 15:59, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit]We sure it's the same guy and not just a homage movie character? Dead Metal 04:54, 3 October 2010 (EDT)
- It's the Transformers toyline, so he's whomever you want him to be. Hasbro's not into limiting your options these days. - Starfield 06:36, 3 October 2010 (EDT)
- That said, I'm guessing his Reveal the Shield isn't a Cybertronian faction symbol. - Starfield 06:39, 3 October 2010 (EDT)
- Allegedly, Hasbro at Botcon said this Mindset would be an Autobot. If anyone could confirm or deny this, great, otherwise we'll just wait to "Reveal the Shield" ourselves. 128.83.129.124 11:52, 6 October 2010 (EDT)

- Hasbro has said that that new toy was the Mindset. So... --Detour 07:09, 3 October 2010 (EDT)
- They also said that Sea Spray was the Seaspray, but he fights movie-verse guys. So... (Not saying Mindset isn't Mindset, but pointing to Hasbro's in-person claims isn't 100% proof.) --ItsWalky 10:44, 3 October 2010 (EDT)
- So? Sea Spray gets around. -hx 13:23, 3 October 2010 (EDT)
- It's just that we have a policy that tells us to put toys on the page they belong to not on pages of characters they share the name with, remember when Hasbro said that ROTF Lockdown was the Animated character just in movie styling? Dead Metal 14:55, 3 October 2010 (EDT)
- It's very possible that Mindset's toy will move, but until we know otherwise, this is a good place for it. He does ship with G1 Jazz and G1 Tracks, after all. He's not in a movieverse toyline. --ItsWalky 15:24, 3 October 2010 (EDT)
- Hasbro seems to take a more mythic approach to their characters these days. If it has the same name, they seem to consider it the same character regardless of the universe in which any associated fiction (including bios) places it. If we were to follow their lead, it would totally destroy the organization of this wiki. --Khajidha 15:31, 3 October 2010 (EDT)
- No "these days" about it. All Optimus Primes are the same guy has always been their approach. We are not attempting to "follow their lead" here. This is merely the best place to put the information until we know otherwise. --ItsWalky 15:33, 3 October 2010 (EDT)
- So can I go ahead and add Fallback onto Outback's page? Dead Metal 16:46, 3 October 2010 (EDT)
- For the moment that seems better than creating a whole new page and disambiguation we might not need. --ItsWalky 17:43, 3 October 2010 (EDT)
- Yeah. Let's face it, he'll eventually show up in SOME fiction to be summarily executed - it just depends on if it's Titan or IDW that get to him first (or maybe we get a version of him in Titan's ROTF stuff and a version in IDW's G1 stuff! Super confusing!). He'll show up either in a crowd scene or as a random dude to get killed, and then we'll know where he lives. So for now, just dump him here. -hx 22:02, 3 October 2010 (EDT)
- I have this horrible premonition that the G1 inspired Jazz and Tracks figures will have toy bios that also feature explicitly Movie-verse Decepticons. --Khajidha 11:01, 4 October 2010 (EDT)

- In the recent past, Hasbro has been more clear where characters are from. I'm thinking of the different series in the Universe line (G1 series, Armada series...). - Starfield 10:56, 4 October 2010 (EDT)

- The toy is an Autobot; we've seen the reverse of his packaging now. Surely thats enough to seperate the comics Mindset from this Mindset? There's nothing linking the two together other than a cross-faction name reuse and very loosely similar alternate modes. 95.148.9.67 07:46, 27 October 2010 (EDT)
- Yeah, let's kick 2010 dude out of here. This is ridiculous. ---Blackout- 07:50, 27 October 2010 (EDT)
- Where, exactly, did we see the reverse of his packaging? --Detour 08:59, 27 October 2010 (EDT)
- Should be up on all the major boards; it isn't an official release, but in this case we wouldn't be adding stolen info but, rather, removing mistaken information. (Even though it was HONESTLY mistaken information, like, based directly off Hasbro's word, before Hasbro decided that either Mindset had always been an Autobot or that the difference wouldn't matter.) --Thylacine 2000 09:29, 27 October 2010 (EDT)
- Split 'em. --ItsWalky 10:21, 27 October 2010 (EDT)

- I read on a forum he had an Autobot symbol at BotCon. So that's official even if the leaked packaging isn't. - Starfield 10:27, 27 October 2010 (EDT)
Universe (2008) Onslaught
[edit]Since Mindset is related to Onslaught, it should be okay worth mentioning that Universe (2008) Onslaught's (though he is a repaint) alt mode is a missile vehicle just like Mindset. --TX55TALK 23:01, 13 October 2010 (EDT)
- No. It is absolutely not worth mentioning. It is a boring, pointless coincidence. --ItsWalky 23:23, 13 October 2010 (EDT)
