Hillbillies
[edit]"made a bunch of hillbillies convinced Martians were invading......." This is a very narrow minded insulting statement. A cross section of the community were taken in by Orson Welles production of War of the Worlds. This paragraph has too be changed.

The Critic
[edit]Oh what luck, there's a french fry stuck in his beard! --Rotty 17:10, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
- Please let that stay. It means the world to me. --DrSpengler 17:15, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, Rosebud frozen peas! Full of country goodness and green peaness!--TVsGrady 01:43, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
I happen to feel that this is a finer moment. -Derik 05:18, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
- There's nothing there, Derik. And on the subject of taking Welles quotes from The Critic (I loved that show), I think a good image caption would be "Oh yes! They're even better when you're dead!" -- SFH 02:46, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
He also fought Martian Nazis using magic allongside superman.
Someone had to mention it.03:36, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
Footnote Link
[edit]The link for footnote #1 is now dead, even using the Internet Archive Wayback Machine. Anyone have an archived version or substitute handy?--Apcog 22:25, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
- Near as I can figure, this is the same article (it was AP, so it figures it would appear in different sources). The thing is, it doesn't contain that quote. It's possible the Kitsap Sun shortened the article, but Googling "Orson Welles" and "horrible things to each other" just results in a bunch of citation-less parroting. I'm beginning to suspect the quote isn't real at all, despite how much I want it to be. Edit: One of the Google-results claims that the quote came from "his biographer, Barbara Leaming." This is the biography she wrote... maybe I should find it at the library and check... - Jackpot 16:26, 17 July 2009 (EDT)
- Closest I can find is this quote, from page 522, "I played the voice of a toy. Some terrible robot toys from Japan that changed from one thing to another. The Japanese have funded a full-length animated cartoon about the doings of these toys, which is all bad outer-space stuff. I play a planet. I menace somebody called Something-or-other. Then I'm destroyed. My plan to destroy Whoever-it-is is thwarted and I tear myself apart on the screen." --Jimsorenson 16:38, 17 July 2009 (EDT)
- Hot damn, sir. That's the mother lode of Welles TF:TM quotes. I'm totally putting that whole thing in the article. - Jackpot 16:41, 17 July 2009 (EDT)
- This is the context:
- More and more in this period, his time and energies were dissipated - criminally, it seemed to me - by the endless succession of voiceovers and commercials he labored over to pay for "groceries".
- "You know what I did this morning?" asked Orson, his voice dripping with contempt.
- "What?"
- <quote from above>
- Then it transitions to his failing health. All taken from Orson Welles: A Biography by Barbara Leaming--Jimsorenson 16:46, 17 July 2009 (EDT)
- Much thanks. And here I'd even already put it on hold at the library! Is it worth reading anyway? I skimmed the preview pages on Amazon, and it seemed a little dense. - Jackpot 17:06, 17 July 2009 (EDT)
- I haven't really read it. If you're a fan of his work, it might be worth a read. --Jimsorenson 17:12, 17 July 2009 (EDT)
