Talk:Ravage (G1)
Magmatron isn't wrong about Ravage's loyalties- historicly speaking. According to State Games, he betrayed the OVerlord not out of love of Megatron (so much) as love for HIMSELF. The Overlord represented a dead-end for Cybertron- and Ravage refused to sacrifice his life (or his continued service) for it. He planted his flag with Megatron, who he felt (and continues to feel up through BW era, on account of the Preds sontinued stagnation.)
State Games was an absoluely brilliant story, int ersms of the background it constructs. The Megatron/Prime stuff everyone pays attention too is the least of what's 'going on' in it. It's probably the single MSOT INFLUENTIAL story on everythign that came after for TF, but no one actually THINKS about it. (Shy Shadow understood it completely. That's why he remains my favorite fan-writer. His stuff is completely brilliant.)
I'm sorry, I'm bitching abouy these young kids today with no respect for the past, aren't I? -Derik 01:09, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
- I find the parallels between Nighstalker and BW Ravage rather interesting; I mean, both ended up sacrificing themselves for the glory and loyalty of their respective leaders, sacrifices that ended up being in vain, in the end.
I also can't help but notice a similarity in colorization between Nightstalker and Nitrostreak. Would be interesting if he was supposed to be the Timelines version of Nightstalker, eh?
I think the "BW Manga Ravage" image would be better off as a scan of the actual manga, rather than a scan of the Happy Meal Panther. THAT image should go under "Panther", methinks. --M Sipher 00:05, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
Alternators/Binaltech voice
[edit]I'm just curious as to if the Alternators/Binaltech version of Battle Ravage retains his Russian voice or not. AutobotFreak643 03:42, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
Spare Image
[edit]I replaced this image with a DVD screencap, and I don't know what do to with this pic. --FFN 05:26, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
Shadow Panther
[edit]It sounds like Shadow Panther was originally intended to be a new character, and Hasbro simply repurposed the toy as Tripredacus Agent, similar to how Neo-Wheel became Universe Hot Spot. On the other hand, his piddly little bio (as translated on TFU.info) doesn't really contradict him being Ravage. So is there still a separate character out there named Shadow Panther, or has he just been retconned into being Ravage? --Andrusi 17:32, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
- Shadow Panther has, if you ask me, clearly been retconned into being Ravage - but based on some stuff Ben was saying at BC, he may be being retconned back, in which case there'll either be SP and Ravage-in-that-body or just SP. I guess it depends on whether the newly-remade-a-character SP is a Tripredacus Agent. -LV 18:24, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
- Shadow Panther is a cover identity. He was supposed to be a Pred masquerading as a Maximal. Because of his propensity for hidign in the shadows before attacking, many assumed him to be Ravage (including Hasbro.) Making SP a seperate character could means 2 different things.
- Making Shadow Panther a real maximal whose identity Ravage stole.
- Making Shadow Panther a SEPERATE feline Tripredicus Agent who hides in shadows.
- #1 is simpler, but I wouldn't be opposed to #2 if it was part of some larger explanation. (I.E. if he was part of Ravage's extended family, and they drew in Ravage's father from the Japanese BW Manga to show off the entire clan.) -Derik 02:31, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
I believe it is also possible that Shadow Panther is a "Tripredicus Agent", like Ravage, Tarantulas, and Flamewar. Its much more likely that Takara's intent wasn't to make Shadow Panther into Ravage since Beast Wars Metals wasn't released in Japan till 98-99 and Shadow Panther was released in 96. Hasbro most likely just connected the color scheme and released it with the new name (again for Trademark reasons) in 99. But the box still featured the official Japanese bio on it, which to me makes Takara's intent/ naming stronger than Hasbro's internet profile. For this reason, I don't think the two are in fact the same character. -Agent Ravage 8/5/07
Caption question
[edit]So what's the "reveals his slef" reference with the cartoon picture? I don't get the joke.--209.86.72.130 04:32, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
- Reffed now! --ItsWalky 05:32, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
- Well, great - now my mind hurts. That's what I get for asking. heh.--209.86.75.156 02:11, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
Doesn't use his robot mode?
[edit]I'm going to have to disagree with the assertion that Ravage doesn't use his robot mode in Beast Wars: The Gathering. Even in the panels shown, it's very obvious that the left panel is Transmetal 2 Cheetor's beast mode, and the right panel is his robot mode. Yeah, they look similar, but they're by no means identical. --Keldroc
The panel is badly captioned and placed. The right panel is from Primeval Dawn, a separate post-BW comic series. --ItsWalky 05:04, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
"Hunden"
[edit]Does anyone have some info or citation on where the supposedly Swedish name "Hunden" comes from? It literally means "the dog", and I can imagine the sometimes quite crack-pot translators in my fair country calling Ravage a dog by accident in the Swedish dub, but the name of the character has consistently been Ravage. --Ultra Marcus 14:00, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
- It comes from Windchaser, who's from Sweden. And, yeah, we know it means "dog." --ItsWalky 14:20, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
BW Transformation
[edit]I've heard twice now that BW Ravage actually did transform onscreen, complete with the classic transformation sound. Based on his cgi model this seems completely implausible, and anyway what did he transform into? Surely not a cassette. Can anyone provide some context? -- 75.72.21.221
He transforms into an all black cassette tape and inserts himself in his ship's tape deck in order to control it. http://transformersforever.com/newtfsitefiles/TFsite5-2001/imagegallery/beastwars/season%202/12/watermarked/cap681.jpg http://transformersforever.com/newtfsitefiles/TFsite5-2001/imagegallery/beastwars/season%202/12/watermarked/cap683.jpg 85.195.119.22
Wow. Just wow. That's definitely the least realistic transformation.. ever.
Actually, he doesn't even HAVE a Transforming clip. If you pay close attention, his curled up body is instantly switched out for a spinning tape deck. Also, I don't think he could control his ship in tape mode, all he actually did was play 80's hair rock for a few seconds. AutobotFreak643 03:37, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
Beast Wars Goes under Animated
[edit]I know putting Beastwars under the Animated subsection is frowned upon, and for good reason, but it would improve the readability of the article soooo much. -Unsigned comment by User:193.200.150.23
- The problem is that Beast Wars isn't explicitly part of the animated continuity, no more than it is part of the Marvel continuity. It sort of fits into pretty much every G1 continuity (except for IDW's), and thus putting it into the same section as another continuity wouldn't work. Even picking a continuity to include it in would be fairly arbitrary, and subject mostly to the favored continuity of whoever makes the edit. -- Dark T Zeratul 02:11, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Actually, the sheer act of Ravage talking puts him more squarely akin to his Marvel counterpart's continuity, though as Zeratul says Beast Wars pulls pretty liberally from everything.--Rosicrucian 02:45, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Merchandise
[edit]TVsGrady, was that wallet image actually a hologram sticker, or was it lenticular? Just so we're sure.--Apcog 04:57, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
Featured?
[edit]Considering Ravage is one of the few characters to have significant roles in both the G1 and Beast Wars eras, I nominate him for the next Featured Article. Any other takers? --Nightshade83 03:19, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
- His article has to be complete before that can happen. --ItsWalky 04:08, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
Continuity mess
[edit]Hey, should we put some kind of 'Japanese Beast Wars continuity' heading over the Binaltech section, and then make the 15 Go! Go! section go under that? What about the Beast Wars Metals manga? Since we pointed out that it's not in-continuity with the cartoon, should it go under 'Japanese Beast Wars continuity' over Binaltech and 15 Go! Go!?
Additionally, shouldn't the Kids Stuff Read-Along info be placed somewhere in the Generation 1 era? Perhaps at the end of the G1 section because it doesn't fit into any particular continuity? Actually, I have no idea if that book was released in the 80s since there isn't even a storylink for it. A storylink would be nice! --FFN 01:13, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah thanks for not giving me any input. I just realised we have placed all of his modern Generation 1 appearances after his Beast Wars appearances. Wasn't Beast Wars meant to be an ambigious future for Generation 1? It's treated that way on the other Generation 1 articles, so why not here? --FFN 15:43, 1 October 2009 (EDT)
Yes -- DW, Devil's Due and IDW should come after Beast Wars. We've always sorted the main continuity headings by release date, haven't we? So first the Marvel Comic and G1 cartoon, then Beast Wars appearances, then DW, Devil's Due, then IDW. Sure, things like Classics fiction get added in earlier than release order, but that's because they are a direct continuation of an earlier continuity. As you said, Beast Wars is an ambiguous future, NOT a direct continuation of any G1 story. It is its own G1 continuity, and Ravage was introduced in that G1 continuity before he was introduced in DW, IDW, etc. --Xaaron 00:17, 2 October 2009 (EDT)
- Yeah, our current standard is to put things listed by release date. There was a period in time early in our wiki's history where putting Beast Wars at the end of the fiction section because it's super-future was the rule of the day, but that was a short reign and it's long since been shelved. Each major continuity should be listed in order of release. (And then events are listed chronologically within each major continuity.) --ItsWalky 00:34, 2 October 2009 (EDT)
- I think I've gone insane. --FFN 03:03, 2 October 2009 (EDT)
Marvel final appearance
[edit]Don't have the comic to hand, but I'm sure Ravage's final appearance was in the last issue on Klo - he jumps at Prime from behind and someone (Grimlock, possibly) blasts him in mid-air. Anyone who's got the tpb or a scan nearby wanna check? Emvee 11:31, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
- I've just looked and it's not clear at all. The character is in two panels, in the first block-coloured reddish-brown, which means nothing with Yomtov's colouring. In the second he's zapped and becomes yellow and blue trimmings but that could just be the effect of the ray. There are no signs of the missiles and until I saw this I never connected him with Ravage - but someone has put him there on the entry for "End of the Road!". Timrollpickering 16:41, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
- It's got Weirdwolf's shoulders, which shouldn't be, as he's elsewhere at the moment. --ItsWalky 18:00, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Perchance to Dream
[edit]Just noticed Ravage's appearance in perchance to dream wasnt mentioned (not sure if there was a a reason for it?) I've added it under earthforce, I think thats the right section, if not feel free to move it! 80.176.139.71 17:39, 17 January 2010 (EST)
Recordicons
[edit]Recordicons #10 goes under the Classics section while Recordicons #16 has its own section. What gives? --Emvee (talk) 06:17, 9 May 2014 (EDT)
