Talk:Ruination (RID)

[edit]The explanation for this misspelled addition BETTER be REALLY damn good. --M Sipher 23:49, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
What they hell does Valdigus mean? is it the correct translation, yadda yadda yadda X-BoB58 00:06, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
If we made up a page for every fucking stupid, meaninlgess name Takara slapped on a toy, this wiki'd be twice as big. And there's no fucking "controversy". This is pointless. --M Sipher 00:07, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
Nevermore said..."Well, THAT is a big stretch.
"G1 Bruticus was ブルーティカス ("Burûtikasu"). The Car Robots toy is バルディガス ("Barudigasu"). Unless the person in charge of Takara's naming department at that time was severely dyslexic, that's not supposed to be the same name. The most interesting theory I've heard was that it's a pun on both "Bruticus" and "Battle Gaia" (バトルガイアー - "Batorugaiâ")." Same general tone/rhythm as "Bruticus", but with the syllables of "Battle Gaia"? See: ブ ("bu") as in ブルーティカス ("Burûtikasu") becomes バ ("ba") as in バトルガイア("Batorugaiâ"). ル ("ru") remains the same, but loses the vowel extender bar (ー), thereby changing the first two syllables from "burû" with emphasis on the second syllable (which allows for the first syllable to be slurred and thus giving way to "bru") into "baru" with emphasis on the first syllable (which allows for the second syllable to be slurred and thus giving way to "bar"/"bal"/"var"/"val"). ティ ("ti") as in ブルーティカス ("Burûtikasu") becomes ディ ("di"). カ ("ka") as in as in ブルーティカス ("Burûtikasu") becomes ガ ("ga") as in バトルガイア("Batorugaiâ"). ス ("su") remains the same. It's just a theory, mind you, although I for one prefer it over "dyslexic in charge of Takara's naming department"."

Thank you for providing absolutely nothing to convince me this is worth including. Again, there's no "controversy", and there's a ton of bizarrely-named Japanese characters. --M Sipher 00:33, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
- If a Zelda fan may clear something up, I've discovered that Japanese only recently invented kana starting with V. Volvagia was "BARUBAJIA" in Zelda II but "VALUVAJIA" by Zelda 5. (Also interesting in that it means they pronounce volcano the same way we do, instead of like 'vole', but that's another story) That's basically the same time jump as original TF to CarRobots.
I like the Japanese characters. Those should be on the main page avter Valdigus, it makes us look all respectable. -Derik 04:21, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
- I hate to agree with Derik, but I kinda do here. The actual ...i dunno, is that kanji? for character names is a nice touch. Looks good. While I'm on it, we have some Chinese character names too, don't we? I remember that Optimus Prime is something like "The Great Warrior of the Heavens" or some shit, right? -hx 04:59, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
- ...hate to agree with Derik? ::sniff:: Ah well, I know how it is. For my part, I hate to disagree with Siph, but, you know, I must follow my way of the ninja. -Derik 05:08, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
Three things: 1. Are 'Urban Camo' and 'Desert Camo' official terms? 2. The Japanese Components were also sold individually. 3. I thought the source of his power was Coffee Milk, not coffee beans themselves.Iron Moose 04:29, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
- Oh, I just took a stroll and found the discussion about the name.:) Well, Optimus Prime's name in China is reeelly much more horrible thing than "The Great Warrior of the Heavens", they call him "The Great Pillar Towering into Sky". What the Hell... --TX55 05:02, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
Coffee beans are what makes Ruination Awaken.
Move
[edit]Derik, is there another Ruination? I don't spy anything else on the wiki. Why was this moved? --ItsWalky 11:01, 30 April 2009 (EDT)
- Ruination (ROTF) from The Veiled Threat - Starfield 11:31, 30 April 2009 (EDT)
Hmm, a good point was brought up in an overview, and I've always wondered about it too (just like the Stryka/Strika thing): why is his Japanese name Valdigus and not Baldigus? -Mazenoise 07:15, 7 September 2009 (EDT)
Molding versions
[edit]I see little effort is really spent on the color and mold differences between the CR en RiD releases for this guy despite the fact that they are extensive. Is this intentional? If we were to cover this it might be nice to mention that the Korean version uses the Hasbro molding (short mega-octane gun etc) but the Takara colors. The tray the giftset comes in is molded for the japanese versions though. The Korea version also has some minor color differences in the combiner parts and bots that really only show up when you put the different versions next to one another.
If there is a good reason we skip all this I'll shut my hole :) Argus 10:54, 3 November 2010 (EDT)
Header?
[edit]Ruination is a combiner in the RID continuity family. More like Ruination is THE Decepticon Combiner from the RID continuity family. Shouldn't we change a to the? He's the only Decepticon combiner in this universe.71.255.173.30 21:06, 25 August 2012 (EDT)
- Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus can combine too. --Detour 21:20, 25 August 2012 (EDT)
- He said Decepticon Combiner. --Sabrblade 22:55, 25 August 2012 (EDT)
- There's Rail Racer, Landfill, and Omega Prime for the Autobots and the Decepticon have ONLY Ruination because for some reason there's so little bad guys up against the Autobots. There's 30 Autobots, and only 12 Decepticons/Predacons. And there only 6 Decepticons, five of which combine. Who's Scourge gonna combine with? The point is. In this universe, there's only one DECEPTICON combiner.71.255.160.134 19:55, 26 August 2012 (EDT)
- Dreadwing and Smokejumper. Even though they weren't in the cartoon, they're still part of the continuity family. --Detour 20:14, 26 August 2012 (EDT)

Ruination (RID)#Notes suggestion (pending confirmation)
[edit]Correct me if i'm wrong, but...
- Contrary to what some of the images shown in this article seem to demonstrate, the Ruination/Baldigus toy is not capable of swiveling his head left and right. However, because of the way Mega-Octane/Dolrailer transforms, the poses on this page can be achieved by retracting Mega-Octane's head (as if transforming from robot mode to vehicle mode) and resting Ruination's head on Mega-Octane's shoulders at an angle (rather than fitting the gestalt's head over Mega-Octane's head like a helmet). Because G1/G2 Bruticus and Battle Gaia use the same toy molds, the same trick may be applied for them as well.
