Yar, I propose this article be moved to Shortpackery, to better reflect the devilish nature o' the practice. -Derik 09:26, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Why is it shortpacked?

[edit]

Is it intentional?--Cyberman 03:07, 21 December 2010 (EST)

I know this is an old comment, but someone else may have this question. Basically, yes. There are a few factors determining why it happens. Sometimes, Hasbro's projections of which toys will be popular get reflected in how they pack the case: Favoritebot will have more toys than Pariahcon. Sometimes, too, it may reflect who has had toys recently, either in another wave or another line. Finally, there's sheer math involved too: if the case holds eight toys, and there are three characters in the release, there's simply no way to pack the same number of each character.
Shortpacking is not the issue if some items get held back by the receiving crew at the store, or get taken out some other way before hitting the shelves. Waverod ✈️ (talk) 19:20, 3 September 2018 (EDT)

Examples?

[edit]

So, we have a heading for Examples, but the last two attempts to add examples (that I can see from a quick browse of the history) have both been reverted. So... do we want examples here, or not? If so, what are the criteria for adding them? If not, should we go ahead and delete the heading? -- Servitor 2152 13:39, 30 May 2011 (EDT)

Your most recent example, RTS Windcharger, isn't shortpacked. He's packed in equal numbers with the other toys in that wave. He's just more sought-after. --ItsWalky 13:43, 30 May 2011 (EDT)
And the previous one (ROTF Skystalker) was quite common around my area when it came out, it didn't seem to be more or less common than others in the same wave. --Khajidha 13:45, 30 May 2011 (EDT)
Yeah, I don't think he was shortpacked either. This isn't just a list of "stuff I couldn't find." --ItsWalky 13:48, 30 May 2011 (EDT)
Really? My mistake. I was under the impression that Windcharger was packed two-to-a-case in a case that was otherwise filled with older figures, which is the definition given here, and which was part of the reason BBTS was charging so much for him. But then, I guess if all those other figures were also two-to-a-case, then technically he wasn't any more shortpacked than they were.... -- Servitor 2152 17:25, 30 May 2011 (EDT)
Yeah, an important part of the definition is that there's *less* than him than the other guys in the case, not just how many there are of him in the case. --ItsWalky 18:03, 30 May 2011 (EDT)

Chase figure

[edit]

Why is Chase figure a separate article? It seems to have basically the same definition. --flicky1991 12:53, 2 March 2013 (EST)

A chase figure is generally part of a blind-packed assortment, a promotion. A shortpacked figure is just a logistics failure.--Jimsorenson 14:39, 2 March 2013 (EST)
Ah, I see. And I stupidly didn't notice the section comparing them, too... --flicky1991 16:03, 2 March 2013 (EST)
