I only listed "Call of the Primitives" because that's the only one from season 3 I know for certain that TMS did. However, both "The Killing Jar" and "The Dweller in the Depths" have animation models that look a lot like TMS' and don't gel with Toei's work. Anybody know for sure if TMS did those two episodes as well? --DrSpengler 20:08, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

How do you know for certain? Is there some kind of official listing? Shouldn't they be listed in the credits? I mean, I'm a huge fan of TMS's stuff... and this... doesn't look like TMS to my eye. Everyone is waaaaay too off-model. There's not a lot of actual ANIMATION, and TMS is all about the motion. (People continually confusing "animation" with "art style" is infuriating (see: Beast Machines)) -- M Sipher

When I wrote that essay a while back about the Animation studios, I had initially thought Toei did all the non-Akom season 3 episodes. I since took the essay down because of inaccuracies. I had a long discussion over at the Allspark (which is now lost after the board clean-up) and apparently it seems the consensus among fans that TMS did "Primitives". Personally, I have no proper source for it (aside from this and this) other than upstanding members of the fandom like McFeely and Nevermore as well as tons of others telling me it wasn't Toei. Looking at "Primitives", the animation most certainly isn't Toei. Even when Toei was at their best (the Movie, Zone), their work didn't look the same as "Primitives".

  • As far as sources go, all I've got is IMDB, Wikipedia and lots of members of the fandom telling me so. If that's not enough then delete the article. --DrSpengler 21:15, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Once upon a time, so very many moons ago, I remember Rik Bakke posting a scan of the animation production schedule for the third season on ATT. That, as I recall, (I hope I recall right) had TMS labelled as the animators of "Primitives." After googling for like twenty minutes, though, I can't find the bloody thing. - Chris McFeely 21:27, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

This it? 40 seconds -Derik 04:09, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
No, that's Rik's personal review of the animation. I remember one time he posted an actual scan of a document - he refers to it in that post, but I can't find the one where he actaully posted it. - Chris McFeely 10:58, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

Okay, so that dude says "Killing Jar" and "Dweller" are both Toei episodes. Cool. --DrSpengler 05:09, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

TMS on "Call of the Primitives" is long-standing fandom folklore, going back as long as I can remember, but as far as I know there is no actual evidence for the belief. It's entirely possible that it's one of those things (like Romita designing the models) that somebody just kind of guessed at one point and then became taken as true. I vaguely recall somebody that I trust to know what they are talking about stating that they knew for sure TMS was *not* the studio which did CotP, but I'd have to do a lot of digging to find the post in question. --Steve-o 14:27, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

Call of the Primitives is drawn all nicely, but I wouldn't say it strikes me as being particularly animated super-well, which is how I would figure if something were TMS or not... So I share in the doubt. --ItsWalky 15:57, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
You know, as I pointed out in a caption in his article, Predaking is drawn well (by G1 standards), yet at the same time is drawn pretty badly with his bizarro proportions. I heard the animation models for this episode were based upon the G1 art in the japanese TV magazines at the time. --FFN 16:02, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

AKOM vs. Toei

[edit]

The reason this episode looks so much better is that is was done by Toei.Compared to all the other AKOM produced episodes of Season 3,anything that shows proper scale, and shadows and linear finesse,is going to look like a frickin' masterpiece.ChoHIlqoq 22:44, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Except that's entirely wrong, because AKOM only animated about half the season, with Toei animating the rest, and "Call of the Primitives" being the (very) odd man out, looking like neither of the two studios work and using wierd stylized models. - Chris McFeely 13:48, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Who really animated this episode?

[edit]

You see, I'm not one to say that TMS isn't the company that animated the ep, but I really need to learn the truth. Who did animate CotP? Transfan798 15:21, 14 May 2009 (EDT)

As soon as we find out, you can be sure it will be amended on this wiki.--DrSpengler 15:27, 14 May 2009 (EDT)

What the hell was going on?

[edit]

What was with the Columbia Tristar/Disney edits by some anon? --FFN 06:02, 20 June 2009 (EDT)

I have no idea... It's false information, as a quick visit to TMS's wikipedia article and official website shows. I just don't know what motivated that guy to go slap all that falseness on... --Detour 07:30, 20 June 2009 (EDT)
