Initial response: OH FUCK YOU! FUCK YOU TOO MATRIX FACILITY FANWANK MCGUFFIN BULLSHITTERY. IT SUCKS. IT SUCKS DO YOU HEAR ME! IT WAS A STAND-IN CONCEPT, IT WAS THERE IN CASE THEY NEEDED TO EXPLAIN IT, BUT IT NEVER GOT MENTIONED BECAUSE IT SUCKED, FOREVER HOPING SOMETHING BETTER WOULD COME ALONG! ZOMBIE FUCKING JESUS ON A STICK, IS 'IT SUCKED' SO ALIEN A CONCEPT? IT'S BEEN 11 FUCKING YEARS, AND IN ALL THE FANWANK WE GOT, THERE WAS NO MATRIX OR PIT FACILITY. TAKE A CLUE FROM THAT- THEY NEVER DID IT FOR A REASON. FUCK YOU TIMELINES! FUCK YOU PREDACON WARS PREDATING THE PAX CYBERTRONIA. FUCK YOU AUTOBOTS AND DECEPTICONS STILL EXISTING BUT 'INACTIVE' IN THE BEAST ERA. FUCK YOU ALL. THIS ISN'T BEAST WARS. THIS WAS NEVER WHAT BEAST WARS WAS ABOUT. NO GODDAMN SELF CONTROL. THIS ISN'T HOW BEAST WARS UNIVERSE IS CONSTRUCTED. YOU'RE WRITING HOW YOU REMEMBER IT, AND YOU SUCK! YOU'RE MAKING IT SUCK! FUCK YOU, KEEP YOUR SHITTY-ASS UNINTERESTING, UNINSPIRING, NOT-EVEN-VAGUELY-LIKE-THE-SHOW PERSONAL CANON OUT OF TF! "WOULDN'T IT BE COOL IF..." NO, IT WOULD NOT BE COOL. STOP, STOP RIGHT NOW. I WANT YOU TO STOP WRITING TF MORE THAN I WANT JAPAN TO. I HATE YOU ALL. -Derik 02:26, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

So, was it worse than "The Beast Within"? Interrobang 04:13, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
You know, I've been putting off reading this. Should I just put that off forever?--MCRG 04:43, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
The story itself is not bad. ...I think the basic premise "Hey, Airrazor is a chick-bot! Let's pair her without other chick-bots for a mission! After all, the fact she is female is her sole defining characteristic right?" ...is pretty misguided, but for all that it's not a terrible story.
I just found the canonization of the Matrix/Pit thing tremendously irritating. I make no secret I think they were a bad idea, and the story did it in a very offhand way- it didn't have to. That said, they didn't canonize the 'mysteriously appeared one day' part, which was frankly the worst of it. (There is a ref to the process being sacred- but not secret, so Timelines apparently isn't going with the 'mysterious sealed unit' thing.) It's... much less obnoxious than it could be, but still just a really bad idea. (And really, I have a very low tolerance for Timelines stupidity, because I think it's tremendously and notably bad at doing the Beast Wars era- the Timelines universe isn't like BW-era is supposed to be, at all, and that frustrates the hell out of me, because it's getting it's ugly poorly-written fanwank all over the best TF series.) I felt better for getting that off of my chest anyway. -Derik 06:15, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
Having started reading this thing, I think I'm far more irked by it starting with girlbot bondage and a guy with the name "Steelgrave". Yeah. Er, right.--MCRG 06:28, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

So, anyone gonna snark this puppy up? I mean, those of us not in the club (me) can't see this atrocity at all, and I am morbidly curious. --Chiasaur11

I don't think any of us can muster up the courage to do this thing. Hey, who did the Dreamwave Vol 1/Micromasters pages? RolonBolon? If he hates himself that much, maybe he can do this. --ItsWalky 05:59, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
I may be full of self-loathing, but I'm also not a club member! Nice try, suckers! - RolonBolon 18:31, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
It may be worth it to me to buy you a membership so you can do it so we don't. --ItsWalky 18:37, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
Sounds fair to me. - RolonBolon 21:43, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Decimate

[edit]

Does anybody have a link to that photoshopped Spider-Man comic book cover where the villain uses "decimate" incorrectly? Google fails me. --ItsWalky 18:20, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Got it. Uploaded it. Interrobang 19:12, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
Woo, was able to find a linked version now that I know to search for "The Rephrasing Spider-Man." Thanks! --ItsWalky 20:28, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Per Merriam-Webster, "decimate" can be legitimately used to mean "to reduce drastically especially in number". I grant that M-W is being descriptivist here, not prescriptivist, but I'm not sure we should spend so much time ragging on a use of the word that's supported by real dictionaries. JW 22:25, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

I do think that if you were to take a poll of random people on the street, the assumed definition statistics would skew heavily towards "reduce drastically especially in numbers." I know that's the primary use of the word I've always been aware of. That said, I'm staunchly in favor of re-educating the public. --Sntint 01:27, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
"Half of them had been decimated" is still an awful, awful phrasing using either meaning. --M Sipher 02:22, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
. . . Well, I'll give you that. Maybe we can cut just half the ragging. JW 02:39, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
No arguements there. --Sntint 03:58, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

List of Characters

[edit]

I was wondering why this article unlike the other Timelines articles doesn't have a Featured characters section? --Revan's Exile 08:21, 22 August 2009 (EDT)

In large part, I would imagine it's because the story is so fucking terrible that nobody wants to go through it to create one. :) - Chris McFeely 08:38, 22 August 2009 (EDT)
Hey, call me nobody. :) Greenygal 16:12, 22 August 2009 (EDT)
